Why would they be a bad option?

Definitely seems like it is a poor explanation. Maybe it was described as: "The light rail vehicles being used in Ottawa", which on line 2 are the FLIRTS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadler_FLIRT. This is the kind of vehicle that makes sense.

Having more distinct station names is important as the network grows and becomes more regional. When you only have 2 lines, an Eglinton and Eglinton West makes sense, but as you have more lines and people travelling from further regions, you start to introduce confusion. The station names will...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Looks like it will be an underpass, but I was wrong about road alignment. The new road is to the west, with the current road alignment being used during construction. https://www.oakville.ca/residents/rs-studies-kerr-cnr-crossing.html Preferred Final alignment: Construction Alignment:

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I thought this was going to be an underpass, with Kerr diving under the tracks. Last report I saw had construction doing the following: Lay temporary tracks North of the current ones (this is the area they are clearing) Re-route Kerr to the west, roughly where the Wimpy's and Good Books...

I'd expect the wall seen at the edge of the sidewalk to become a full height wall with a soundwall at the top. Definitely a loss of vegetation, but this is a station location. Further north, at the park, there will be space for trees between the wall and the park. Yes, it is a neagtive impace...

Another interesting note is that East Harbour will now have GO platforms for all tracks. This will allow express trains to stop at East harbour. The transfer won't be cross-platform, but a shared concourse should still provide fairly convenient transfers. It will still end up as one of the...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It likely won't start construction until post-2041. But I hope they properly rough-in the station at Bridge, the central section will connect 4 rapid transit lines, and 3 major growth areas. Even if you just build the connector stations and plan to add the infill stations after, I think it will...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I wonder if the construction of this station will be enough of a push to start building a section of the transitway. They can hopefully build the Highway 407 station to Bridge station section to open shortly after the subway, with a new GO station at Concord. Another "easy-win" section and...

4 tracks provide plenty of capacity for GO services in the shared stretch for at least the next 100 years.

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I had a look at the Richmond Hill Centre Secondary Plan (Here) to see how the new proposed stations may integrate into the eventual development sites over the next 30 years. Here is a slide with an overview of what they would like to do: The new High Tech station ends up being fairly centrally...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Here is a fantasy map of eventually higher-order transit infrastructure in the GTA. I tried to maintain a somewhat consistent scale to properly show the coverage. I lean heavily on BRT for peel and york, as I think most of the area won't be dense enough to require LRT or grade-separated rail...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The proposed option surfaces as soon as reasonably possible. The goal is to get the subway north of the 407 is be able to effectively connect to the viva network and regional 407 buses. Unfortunately, because of poor prior planning, there is no surface ROW available so the choice is elevated...

    VIA Rail

Could VIA use a funding approval to kind of strong-arm CN into a better deal? Essentially say: We can spend all this money on infrastructure and maintenance on our own line and corridor. Or, we can enter a more equal partnership and this money can upgrade some of your infrastructure, but we get...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I think bridge station is a great example of good transit planning when you have a long-term vision. At the cost of a 100-200m longer walk for local residents, you get a station that provides easy and convenient transfer for: A subway that leads downtown with many destinations and transfers...

I'd expect there would be some significant issues with water flow if you filled in the western gap. Here is a study on flow circulation in the harbour. I'm not sure of the Transport Canada regulations for protected harbours, but I expect Hamilton is treated differently than Toronto due to its...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

This may be better suited for the fantasy thread. But the Ontario line seems to be designed for a planned elevate extension to Don Mills. Do you think there will be further extension north beyond that? Seneca college seems like the next obvious destination, but from there does it make sense to...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

An unrealistic and silly idea I came up with today, the great circle lines. It occurred to me that if the Eglington West LRT and Finch West LRT both get extended to the airport, you could in theory run through services from Kennedy to Finch West. There isn't much point in doing that, but if you...
