I'm a bit flummoxed by these comparisons. Winnipeg and Hamilton are absolutely not superior places for urban, pedestrian focused spaces (the suggestion that the Exchange District or James Street exceed Old Strathcona is... borderline bizarre). I think that the frustration lies with our progress...

Having lived above the 20th and 30th floor of buildings, I don't see this as a loss (shoeboxes in the sky). 29 floors in this location is absolutely fine.

Don't listen to this overly negative take. They are super common globally - including in Vancouver today where I am currently sitting. You will also see boba in tea from street vendors in Toronto, New York, Taipei, Tokyo...

You're not wrong. You would see a blend of large-format and boutique retailers at key downtown retail streets in our biggest cities - Best Buy and London Drugs right next to smaller retailers at Granville and Robson/Georgia comes to mind in Vancouver. This also exists to an extent in Calgary...

I just came across this proposed conversion of a historic apartment block (former firehall) into a boutique hotel and restaurant/retail/solarium space. This certainly would fill a gap missing since the bed and breakfast was torn down on 124 Street...

I like it! The foot traffic from this will go exactly where we want it - LRT, street-oriented retail etc.
