TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I feel like the 511 is getting shortchanged in this whole process. On another note, I keep seeing sidewalks with boxes drawn on them in spraypaint and the words 'TTC pole pocket' written inside, often near existing stops but not always. Is this something to do with changing to catenary wire?

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

In the sense that you could go on to do A-levels ('advanced') after doing O-levels ('ordinary'), i.e., a two-stage school leaving process. But not in terms of academic level ...

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

Interesting. Incidentally, the house system, prefects, head boy/girl, etc. are found in state schools in the UK as well. Are there non-private schools in the GTA that have uniforms, outside of the TCDSB?

Backyard chickens? Toronto thinking it over

I thought most people would be keeping chickens on their property for eggs, not meat. One thing I can see happening is people starting to do it because they like the idea, but once it turns out to be work and you have to shovel chicken manure, etc., they lose interest and possibly let the...

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

I think that's sort of overlooking the amount of Victorian/Edwardian architecture that remains, at least in terms of housing stock.

    Toronto Toronto | 101 Spadina Avenue | 133.95m | 39s | Devron Developments | AUDAX

That's a nice idea but considering how long it took to get just a simple pedestrian bridge built there ...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I think that's the most surprising thing in that entire post. I thought Ford Nation's position at this point was 'Yeah, there's a video. He smoked some crack. So what? It's private. And he only did drugs because the media party were mean to him, asking him questions and stuff'. Does that mean...

Can't we all just get along? The car, bicycle, skateboard, pedestrian et al debate

There is a lot of distracted driving, true. But it takes a special kind of idiocy to attempt a lane change and then end up on the sidewalk at 90 degrees to the road.

Can't we all just get along? The car, bicycle, skateboard, pedestrian et al debate

Yah, people trying to get somewhere on time! Who knows when the next bus or streetcar will come! Funny stuff!

    King-Spadina East Park

It doesn't have to be that way. I think the park along Cumberland in Yorkville has turned out pretty great, for example - how did that happen?

    King-Spadina East Park

I'm not sure another park is what the city needs either. As I was looking around on Google Street View to see where it might go, I realized that the area already has Clarence Square so it couldn't/shouldn't be too close to it.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

The Moneyline guy, always ranting about foreign trade and immigration? I can see that.

    King-Spadina East Park

Interesting that it says Richmond in the URL ... could it be the low-rise retail strip plus parking lot at the southeast corner of Spadina & Richmond? Nothing near King & Spadina seems like a candidate for demolition (everything's either old and therefore possibly heritage or just too new) and...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Interesting question. I haven't noticed anyone in the US media - yet - who's been either as sycophantic or as stupidly gullible towards Trump as Worms was to Ford.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Cops on bikes can also respond to some things a lot faster in a certain areas. If you're sitting even moderately high in the saddle you can see everything drivers are distracting themselves with. Also easier to approach 'problem' cyclists and anything involving pedestrians.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Seems like a step in the right direction. I hope it doesn't devolve into victim-blaming as some other papers are prone to doing.

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

London is pretty darn unaffordable, is probably why. You either have to be an expat there with a decent salary (generous by our standards) or else someone from another EU country living frugally, commuting long distances, etc. Once you get to other cities in England, though, it's still mostly...

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

I've been hearing a lot more UK accents lately (past 5 years or so) and it's mostly younger professionals, not so much older people. At the same time, there also seems to be a growing number of European newcomers.

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

I moved back and forth between the UK and Canada a few times as a kid and I agree that Toronto is not very British, or not overtly. But the term is afternoon tea - high tea is more of a dinner-type meal.

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

That's because Rob Ford picked up such things from his dad, who was a dinosaur.
