    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Plan from the article found here: https://www.guelphtoday.com/local-news/province-finally-commits-to-building-highway-6-bypass-around-morriston-271526 The roundabout is part of the old highway/new interchange.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yep, definitely disappointed with the changes for Guelph. Taking the 33/48 will be hardly any quicker than taking the 29 through Square One. And I would much rather transfer there. If I miss a connection there's at least Starbucks near the buses, or the entire mall where I can pass the time...

Kitchener to Toronto train service & the tech sector

Exactly. That's why I think a bus would be the best solution right now. Run University of Waterloo > Downtown Kitchener > Downtown Guelph > University of Guelph. There's also the issue of fare integration between GRT and Guelph transit. A rail shuttle could mean paying two or even three fares...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

York U is one of my more used GO stations as well, and I agree it's in an awful location. What bothers me the most is the lack of connection between the 407 bus service and the Barrie line. I make that transfer a lot and I always walk the 1.5km from Steeles and Keele to the station. There is...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

No, the Barrie route is able to be bi-directional. There is a passing siding just north of Maple Go Station which was used for the all day two way (weekend) service this past summer. The plan for the Barrie line is all day service to East Gwillimbury, which was the same this we had this summer...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

While I like the idea of having quiet zones on GO Trains I find it strange that it's by level instead of by coach. Maybe it's just because I'm used to the quiet coaches in the UK, but I would have thought it would make sense to have say the two cars on either side of the accessibility coach (to...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Do you have any info that this is still the plan? I know I saw the date of 2015 in the track plans when they added service to Kitchener, but since they only did the minimum to add service on the line I wonder if that'll be pushed off a few more years. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not til 2015...

    Toronto Toronto | Church of Scientology | ?m | 8s

The re-clad reminds me of movie depictions of the headquarters of an evil organization. You know, the type that starts out as some health company out to save humanity, only to find out that they're really some evil organ havesting farm. And then the protagonist has to go in and kill all the...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

And a couple of those cities are over 500k people! While GEXR has been a problem, at least we're finally getting CTC on the line, which is absolutely huge. I hope that, combined with the Georgetown south project, means that there's a good chance of increased service around 2015. Even if GO...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Here's another update on Guelph Go Station (with some really overexposed and backlit pictures). The first half of the tunnel is in place, and the elevator shaft is being formed up now. It's a shame it's so big as it gets in the way of the old station building a bit. Hopefully it's clad nicely to...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It depends how VIA operational funding goes, as to whether it affects VIA or GO more. The VIA website says this project is to allow three extra round trips per day, but after cutting one of the three current trips it's not looking likely that they'll be adding more anytime soon. The track...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The payment process, especially online is the largest downside to Presto. I love actually using the card for travelling and find it much more convenient that way. But like many others putting money on the card is a pain. Last week I put money on my card online the day before I was going to take...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

That sounds like they don't have enough trains to run later, but there's one free earlier that they can use for the new trip, and then quicky send it back to Union to be redeployed before the 4:18 leaves. I'm confused as to why only the morning trains are getting the added cars but not afternoon...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

In addition to that, GRT and Guelph transit are currently working on a plan for 30 minute all day service between Kitchener and Guelph. This could be in place for much much less than the cost of a new highway, and could take a decent amount of demand off the highway. I'd really like to see a...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I'm a little surprised, but not shocked that they're offering free rides. With ridership being much lower than expected free rides might entice people who otherwise wouldn't take the train. And being the long weekend, people are probably much more willing to take a day trip when they know they...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The large PPUDO is a bit of a compromise for Downtown Guelph. Originally, a large (about 400 spots) parking garage was supposed to be built just down the street from the station, and the assumption was that the city would allow GO riders to park there for free. The city hasn't built this...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I can understand not wanting to run a train all the way from Kitchener (even though I wish they would), but they should at least run a bus each from Kitchener and Guelph to Bramalea like they do during the week.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Here's another update on Guelph GO station. Only this half of the tunnel is in place. The other half will be done after this half is finished and the track is moved back to the platform. On the other side will be the kiss-and-ride. The bus portion of the station is mostly complete...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I hope GO uses the location data for a next-bus type arrival time service. GO is fairly ontime, but it would still be nice to know when the train/bus will arrive, especially those times it's late. It would be especially convenient for people with smartphones if it was integrated into the GO app.

New Grand River bridge in Kitchener (Region of Waterloo, completed)

There's a thread over at the Wonderful Waterloo forums with a bunch of pictures. It looks like they've completed the first span of the bridge as of May.
