2022 election - who is running for mayor?

Also, the fact that large chains are universal in being some of the worst jobs, both in pay and in working conditions.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

What I meant to say is that the MTO makes a bad situation (all interchanges) worse.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

It's literally the MTO, the Ministry for Cars and Trucks and Sometimes Buses (but only because we have to). Highway interchanges are universally awful for pedestrians. The Gardiner/Lakeshore interface is probably the worst pedestrian experience (it's an experience alright) downtown.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

These LEED certifications are ridiculous. Focus on the details, but lose sight of the big picture. A parking garage isn't environmentally friendly, no matter how many native plants you use or how many LED lights you have.

The seemingly terminal decline of Tim Hortons

Drive-thrus are miserable. So are eat-ins, why go to a fast food place at all? From an urban planning standpoint, drive-thrus are the worst. They encourage people to stay in their little cocoon, and fast-food places neglect their walking environment (even if it's just from the parking lot to...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

I think they would rather give the entire 115 a new name. The 407 name has a negative stigma due to its tolled status. They are also probably the most heavily used sections of I-90.

Who is surprised that it won't be done by year's end? Apparently these people.

    2022/24 Russian-Ukrainian War

Interesting thought. If I were in Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Tatarstan, Chechnya, Dagestan, or any of the other regions with separatist movements, now would be a good time to start sabotaging Russian institutions - and the aftermath of the war, a good time to declare independence. Especially now...

2022 election - who is running for mayor?

So far it just says "maximum temperature". I'm not familiar with the current minimum temperature requirement in the winter, but I assume that any AC requirements will be similar to that. I hope not, with the heat we've been getting. Probably, but when they move out, the landlord will probably...

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

A future train service to Collingwood with potential extensions to Wasaga and Blue Mountain is a good idea, but the money isn't there while we're spending billions on RER. This is an excellent corridor to preserve (my apologies to Urban Sky), but parts of it have already been picked apart in...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The best place for commuter rail is in Toronto and surrounding areas. Other areas like Ottawa and London don't need (and shouldn't have) commuter rail. I agree that a provincially funded bus service across southern Ontario should have been implemented yesterday. 3. LOL

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

If you're going to spend the money and public effort on building tunnels and stations, you might as well make it public transport. The Loop and its thinking will prevent a true high-capacity transit system in Las Vegas from being built for a generation (the Strip seems like a very good choice of...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

In the context of ECLRT, the area between Kennedy and Pharmacy is a sea of post-industrial zones and box stores. Residential neighborhoods already have a long walk to get to the LRT, so most walk-on ridership should be coming from redevelopment. The closest stop spacing is along the Golden Mile...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

If we're going to go that way, the whole thing is made irrelevant, because most passengers are using buses to get to stations.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The point being that you can't make every accommodation for people with mobility issues. Ultimately, a parallel local service is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, since there will be such service west of Science Centre anyways. You're literally arguing that a $5.5 billion (without...
