The silver lining in my opinion is that it’s not on a Main Street and will be hidden by other developments in due time. It also adds a ton of density blocks from an LRT station.

^ not quite a decade. Construction started in 2018.

    LRT Expansion Planning

I’m sure something like the Centre Line will be built someday. But it might be 50 years from now. I still think a better solution then a High Level Bridge alignment, is to build a low bridge west of Walterdale Bridge, like I explain in this post. Here’s the map:

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Wouldn’t DTBN stand for Downtown Bike Network?

    Old Strathcona CP Rail Yard

Unfortunately we have a pretty strict policy regarding personal electronic devices and photography. It would be a hard sell.

    Old Strathcona CP Rail Yard

I don’t want to comment on my employer’s motives on a social media site, as it may not bode well for my career lol! However, I will say that some companies are more frugal than others. And the reason they have such high profit margins can be because they skimp on maintenance, etc.

What about the NW corner of Whyte and 99 Street?

    Old Strathcona CP Rail Yard

CP still actively use the roundhouse for servicing locomotives. That could change at any time but I doubt it will soon, as we have no alternative facility in the Edmonton terminal. And I don’t see CP selling this land anytime soon. We are always operating at capacity at our other yards, so I...

    Edmonton | Manulife Place Renovations | 145.99m | 36s | AIMCo | MdeAS

It’s actually only eastbound to 97 Street. From 97 Street to 95 Street, it is one way westbound and the driving lane is on the north side of the tracks.

They’ve been doing a lot of excavation/utility work on site already.

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

75 Street is not nearly as bad as some other grade crossings in the city. The reason 50 Street is so bad, is because it’s next to a yard, and trains heading to Calgary build their train in chunks over the crossing. I would say Whitemud ramps at Gateway Blvd, 149 Street north of the Yellowhead...

    Edmonton | Iron Horse Line / Station Park | ?m | 6s | Beljan Development | Hodgson Schilf Evans

If a tunnel is ever required to connect Gateway to Walterdale Bridge (and that’s a big if), the tunnel could be bored with a tunnel boring machine, regardless of what’s developed on the land above it.

I literally rode it 45 minutes ago to grab those photos I posted. It definitely seemed to be a bit faster.

A couple of photos showing the Metro Line extension into Blatchford. First one is looking west from 109 Street. Second one is looking southeast at what I believe will be the new NAIT station.

    Edmonton | Iron Horse Line / Station Park | ?m | 6s | Beljan Development | Hodgson Schilf Evans

CN had a perfectly good alternative (Walker Yard). The problem is that CP never had that alternative, and still doesn't really. Just add yard tracks back in. I doubt CP would ever build tracks over Whyte Ave again. There was a rumour for a while that the Whitemud Drive intermodal yard would...

    Edmonton | Iron Horse Line / Station Park | ?m | 6s | Beljan Development | Hodgson Schilf Evans

CP isn’t going anywhere. They have serious capacity constraints in the Edmonton region as it is. And there are still active customers in the yard. There are rumours they might actually put tracks back in.

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Replacing Kingsway Station with a new elevated station would be a logistical nightmare if you kept the line open during construction. Even if you close the line and demolish and rebuild, I imagine it would be quite expensive. Also, grade separating the LRT would only solve half the problem of...
