    Arc Smart Fare System

Finally. Arc outreach teams are handing out complimentary Arc cards this morning at the following transit stations: West Edmonton Mall, Mill Woods & Century Park. In the afternoon, look for the orange vests at Lewis Farms, Northgate & Southgate. Card quantities are limited. Load your card and...

    Arc Smart Fare System

Edmonton Transit is doing a poor job announcing where the Arc Card Street Team is going to be each morning. Yesterday was the first day they announced anything.

They're going to be at different locations every day.

Edmonton Transit Service - ETS November 23, 2022 1:17 PM Arc outreach teams are handing out complimentary Arc cards during the afternoon commute until 4 p.m. at the following transit stations: West Edmonton Mall, Mill Woods and Century Park. Look out for our orange vests and get your Arc card...

They were at Century Park and Southgate yesterday, Belvedere and Clareview today. So they'll probably be at Coliseum/downtown soon.

Reminds me of bandaid fixes on Ponte Morandi in Italy 25 years prior to its fatal collapse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponte_Morandi

    Arc Smart Fare System

Just my anecdotal observation at Clareview Station. There were a couple of people grabbing a free card but dozens just walked on by. I think people should just grab a card now even if they're not comfortable with using it yet. But I looked into Compass Card roll out in Vancouver and this was...

I couldn't tell if a lot of them were high school or post secondary students. They were all passing the Arc card scanner at the station, unless they're not required to scan before boarding LRT.

    Arc Smart Fare System

Judging by the number of people disinterested in grabbing a free Arc card, there might be an uphill battle for adoption. Would cancelling tickets and passes in the near future help Arc card adoption or hurt transit ridership?

    Arc Smart Fare System

I've never been charged more than one stored value fare for compensation when I forgot to tap off on LRT and ETS buses. I think the main issue is if you're on a commuter bus to travel within St Albert or Strathcona County but forget to tap off, then the compensation fare can be the full ride...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

If it's anything like 83 St, honestly I prefer driving down 83 St in its current two lane with centre LRT configuration. I'm sure the residents love the traffic calmed configuration as well.

Probably just fixtures -- benches, Arc vending machine, a few more tap stations, etc. I wonder if them not installing ticket validators is a holdup as well. I personally think they should normally allow dual sided loading except when crowd management is required after games.

    Arc Smart Fare System

Oh, I'm mostly talking about stops that don't have an Arc machine, which is over 90% of the bus stops in the city. I know we can just insist that travellers and rare to occasional transit users get an Arc card and be done with it but a lot of people are just creatures of convenience and will...

    Arc Smart Fare System

Debit/credit right at the tap machine without having to worry about vending machines would be good. It's good they have an Arc machine at the airport but what if they're somewhere that doesn't have one? Not everyone wants to pay $6 to get a card, even if they have to spend more paying the cash...

    Arc Smart Fare System

Calgary has their handy app that sells single tickets, day passes, and monthly passes. I used it last year at the Stampede and it was pretty handy except for the realization that I would be at the Stampede all day and kind of hooped if my phone ran out of battery. Calgary doesn't provide...

    Arc Smart Fare System

My main impediment to loading more dollars onto my Arc card was not being able to replace the card so this is great news. I do also about boarding speed. I haven't timed it exactly but it takes about 1.5 seconds to tap. Faster than dropping change and grabbing a transfer but slower than showing...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Oh thank goodness they're going with stringing together precast segments this time. Assuming they can get all the piers in place, placement of segments can occur all winter since the pieces are precast off site in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. And yea the gantry crane gets...

    Commuter & Regional Rail

CP is the reason Vancouver’s West Coast Express commuter rail is still only running 5 AM trains in and 5 PM trains out despite more than doubling ridership in its 25 year of operation. CP actually wants to reduce passenger operations to fit in a couple more freight trips.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I saw they replaced the fixed no right turn on red signs with electronic no right turn signs at Gateway Blvd and Whyte Ave and it was pretty effective at stopping cars from turning right during the pedestrian crossing phase. Perhaps these need to go up all along LRT in addition to the double red...

    Capital Line LRT

It's weird that in the spring they had finally brought back 5 minute peak frequencies to the Clareview leg for the first time since Metro Line opened, brought it back down to whatever it was for summer construction, and then decided in the fall that 6 minutes was suitable as we see transit...
