  1. Islington Express Bus

Ontario Line North of Eglinton (was Relief Line North) (Speculation)

The main meaningful difference between LRT and BRT is the capacity of the vehicles*. We need that capacity on Finch West. Not so much on Eglinton East. *other advantages include cheaper operation due to using electricity, lower noise, a smoother ride, and allowing cheaper future growth by...
  2. Islington Express Bus

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

Extending west along the gardiner but not to Sherway is a miss. Sherway is slated to receive massive development in the coming years.

TTC: Bloor Danforth Line 2 West Extension(s)

I don't think the powers that be are in any hurry to extend line 2 given that they just built a brand new bus terminal at Kipling. We'll see Ontario Line extensions before we ever see Line 2 extensions imo.
  4. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

That's not the mall we're talking about. We're talking about Albion Mall.
  5. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

That's not a true description of the area at all. Immediately to the north is an apartment building neighborhood with some townhouses. Another apartment cluster lies on Kipling to the west. To the west and southwest lie townhouse complexes. And to the northeast is the nearly abandoned...
  6. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Agreed, sixrings. Local input should always be considered, but they're not the only stakeholders here. We also have to consider: What impact will this development have on the rest of the city? The region? What about people who would live in the area but have been priced out? What about the...
  7. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Looking more closely at the site, I think we can both get what we want. The mall fronts Albion for the most part, with a heavy setback from Finch that is partly parking lot, mostly grass. I think a lot of development along Finch can occur without touching the mall at all.
  8. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

If not here, then where else? This site is a perfect place for increased density: good transit, lots of land, no existing residents to displace.
  9. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Very inefficient use of land near what will soon be a fast, high-capacity transit line. Unfortunately, according to the business case for the LRT (which I read because I have nothing better to do) vacancy at the mall is pretty low, so we shouldn't expect any...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I want that mall redeveloped so bad.

    Toronto Toronto | Westdale | 134.7m | 40s | Sorbara | Graziani + Corazza

Gather round the campfire, children and I will tell the tale of this area. Open up google maps and follow along: Originally Albion Road crossed the Humber on the current alignment of Flindon Road. Wilson Avenue ended at Weston in an uncomplicated T-intersection. In the 1950s, Albion Road was...
  12. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Just call it New Woodbine (please).

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The scenario I described is supposed to be a simplification, not to be taken literally. Obviously I know that there aren't highway and rail lines that directly compete with each other. The purpose was to show that people make value judgements between two things that essentially provide the same...
  14. Islington Express Bus

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Hence why I said "Some people will always choose to use one or the other". If you need to carry a large object, obviously you will choose to drive. If you're too poor to afford a vehicle, you will pretty much always choose transit. But for most people, they could choose either based on what...
  15. Islington Express Bus

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

No. Imagine a train line and highway running in parallel. Some people will always choose to use one or the other, but most people are swayed by a variety of factors, travel time, cost, etc.. Each mode has its benefits and drawbacks. Now imagine a government widens the highway. Traffic levels...
  16. Islington Express Bus

    VIA Rail

So you admit there are financially viable and profitable parts of the system. Then you propose to sell them off. What good would that do exactly? Why couldn't the government shut down the unprofitable lines (your idea, not mine) but keep operating the "good" parts?
  17. Islington Express Bus

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

"We're finally getting transit built north of Bloor"? There hasn't been a new transit line built on Bloor or south of it since the extension to Kipling in 1980 - 42 years ago! I would amend your statement to "Finally we're getting transit built!" since it seemed like we were in a bit of a dark...
  18. Islington Express Bus

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The Yonge Line is great, but why not have it end in Newmarket instead? 🤔 Real missed opportunity here. And I can't believe they never thought to end Line 2 in Mississauga!
  19. Islington Express Bus

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If the GO train is just as slow as the Yonge line (with the added benefit of taking you ANYWHERE instead of just Union), would it not be a good idea, long term, to rip out the Richmond Hill line, abandon the useless section south of Richmond Hill Centre, and replace the section north of it with...
