York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Honestly, I think instead of scrapping Pink they should properly stagger them with Purple as to increase frequencies. I hate it when I see Purple and Pink come back to back, because for people who are simply going to RHC, it makes no difference which one they take. If they were staggered, then...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I believe that there was a conflict with the TTC regarding using YRT using the busway without having paid for any of the development of it. Stupid political issues, really. In any case, the sooner they hop on that route, the better. But if they do use the route, then would they have to relocate...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

What I meant by 'finicky' was that the TTC is dictated far too often by the wants of the current mayor. YRT routes change all the time, yes, but that's due to seasonal ridership increases/decreases. TTC routes are often dictated by some idiot deciding that he no longer deems a certain route to...

Wow, what's with the hate? I'm about to go to sleep so I'm going to keep this short and simple. - St. Clair was a disaster by many respects. I don't know what to count it as. But sure, we'll say it was ... a "development". - Any increases that are added, are later removed or added again. The...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Thanks for those images. I was meaning to take a visit to see the progress recently but never got a chance. I don't live too far away so I'll definitely have to take a walk around some time soon. Looks impressive. Again and again I'm impressed with the progress YRT/Viva is making on transit...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

You're right. Theoretically, the East is more built up... But the problem with Highway 7 is that barely anyone actually lives within comfortable walking distance to it, so the Viva relies heavily on feeder routes to bring people in from residential areas down to Hwy 7. Problem is, everyone is...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Ah yes, the east side of Yonge is still being developed and is basically a pick up (on the way West) and drop off (on the way East) part of the route for all the York U students. Until the Downtown Markham area gets built up, Purple is really only particularly useful for getting York students to...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I don't know, maybe they've improved things since I used to ride the Purple, but there used to be massive cramming every morning during rush hour, and very often in the afternoon coming back home as well. Do you ride the part of the route that goes to York U? That's really the only excessively...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Finally. It's too bad I barely use the Viva nowadays because of my work location, but my primary complaint when I used to bus almost the entire line to York U was that there simply was not enough capacity for the load during peak hours. Frankly, it was embarassing on their part.

Haha, true on both counts. Spadina IS fun to say, and I think the "Rancho Cucamonga Line" can grow on me. =P

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

I never said everyone had a smartphone or that everyone will have a smartphone, but it's one of those things that should be considered as a factor. As I mentioned, YRT is already investing a lot into technology that allows people to find out where they are going not only via smartphones, but...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

I'm missing your point, on both counts. Not only are you conveniently forgetting what is planned for the Warden/Enterprise corner in the next 5 years, you just named another Viva station down the line that was busy anyway. And as for system maps, the only ones that are easy to read are the Viva...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Never? Do you really think so? Given the amount of people who pile on at most stations right now (off the top of my head, any of Valleymede, Richmond Hill Centre, Promenade Mall, and York U (obviously) all day long, and even other stations during peak hours) I think it won't be long before these...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I used to take the subway every day to go to work, and I think people enter in pairs (or at least try to) much more often than you think... I think what it comes down to is how many people are waiting for the train, and how long they've been waiting. I find when the platform is busier, people...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Ah, I see. Okay, well hopefully it looks better in person than it does in those photos. I just noticed that the front door isn't a 50/50 split. Seems more like a 20/80 split opening. Kind of odd, no? I still don't like how the back of the bus looks, though. =P And I'm also not looking forward...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Thank you for the link to the photos. I was disappointed that Viva's own press release didn't include any pictures. I have to say, I'm not liking the new buses. The Van Hools had a very sleek, cool look to them. These just look like TTC buses trying to look like those Van Hools. *sigh*...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

And that would infuriate me because there are 3 traffic lights between Bathurst and Centre on Hwy 7 as opposed to about 9 of them along the Bathurst/Centre route. Then they could theoretically incorporate the artics on a peak hour basis. I think the issue here is that they just don't have...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I'm not denying that. People get on at RHC as well, but that doesn't mean an alternate routing that skips those stops shouldn't be possible. They're clearly having success with it on the Blue line, so why not on Purple? My point was that in the morning rush hour, the bus is often packed to the...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

So then I guess they should look at the Purple as a gold mine for the same type of implementation. Ridership would skyrocket. Everyone east of Bathurst absolutely hates going through that detour (most of the time during the morning rush, the bus is full to the brim with York students who have no...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I figure a lot of people have that kind of mentality, and I don't think they realize that all they are doing is condemning the bus service that they seem to rely on to get places to either A. never expand or B. eventually implode due to insufficient funds. You can congratulate them for screwing...
