The platforms at Union are not big enough to hold everyone who wants to get on the train. This is apparent when the platform has been announced, but the train is delayed arriving at the station. Some people even have to wait on the stairs.
This already happens at Spadina Station and Union Station from 20:00 to about 05:00. The City has converted a few decommissioned buses exactly for this purpose. Though sometimes they’ll use the BYD electric buses when residents complain about the noise.
They got rid of it years ago, unfortunately. Either right before the pandemic or as part of the pandemic service reductions.
If ridership isn’t there, the least they could do is extend the On-Demand service area to Rouge Hill GO and Port Union at Kingston.
I really wish they’d bring back service to Rouge Hill GO. I’ve emailed them about it a number of times. It shouldn’t take me 40 minutes and three buses to do a trip that used to take 15 minutes.
Barrie Transit is considering trading three 12m conventional buses for three DRT 8m cutaway minibuses. DRT needs permanent replacements for buses lost in the fire, and Barrie would like smaller buses for expanded on-demand service.
