    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Well, there is a lot in flux at the moment with the extensions - particularly the West one. Residents in the public consultation seemed to prefer a Bus Rapid Transit option (which they were promised would be considered), and I am working on a story at the moment about the TTC's expressed desire...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Well it's true that if you believe the report mentioned before, you can manage to keep Yonge line to capacity at peak times without the relief line... but only if you have the SmartTrack running every 5 minutes and no YSE.

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

What do you make of the TTC Board's latest proposal, "review the feasibility of connecting the Eglinton Crosstown West LRT to Finch LRT through the Toronto Pearson Airport campus"? I am asking both the TTC and City of Toronto for comment. Any idea what the route might be? They seem to have...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

That doesn't seem to chime with the latest ridership surveys done by the U of T which I wrote up a few weeks back - they assumed a relief line just to Pape and even then the preferred route takes 3,600 off the Yonge line S of Bloor in peak hours (c. 10%). I probably should have put in those...

    VIA Rail

You make an interesting point here - I am not sure that it is the case since on the one hand they say in the budget document "Funding under the program will be allocated to municipalities based on ridership" but on the other the figures they quote are province-wide not city-wide. Surely there...

    VIA Rail

I mentioned the funding for more study in the story I just put up and pointed people to this thread. It certainly doesn't bode well for a 2019 completion which the CEO was suggesting could be possible.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Also, you pay differently if you can make all your journeys off-peak (something else that presumably the TTC could consider though I don't recall it being talked about recently in fare discussions). Looking at https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/contactless/what-is-capping and...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Keep in mind @nfitz is talking about rates for a given travel zone in London - travel outside of zone 2 and you will have a different rate cap. But in my experience the peace of mind of the rate cap is key. You know when using Oystercard that you are always paying less than cash and also...

    VIA Rail

Just FYI I have reached out to Via Rail to get more details about the recent interviews done with its CEO about getting HFR going. Expect a story on the site in the next few days - probably an opinion piece. I moved back to Toronto from London UK in 2014 so perhaps you can imagine my views on...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

All I can say is that at the public consultation we were repeatedly assured that there was space for the LRT without losing car lanes despite recent land sales.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The latest thinking is that Eglinton West is no longer wanted as a heavy rail link but will probably be some form of LRT or even BRT link ( see my story http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2016/02/hostility-crosstown-west-lrt-voiced-etobicoke-consultation)

    Transit City Plan

The story I promised you went live last night by the way in case you missed it - it displays and summarises the three key transit planning maps unveiled yesterday - the six year, the 15 year "minimalist" and the 15 year "maximalist" maps. I would like to know what you think...
  13. David Brake

    Transit City Plan

Well... one rather roundabout solution that appears to be on offer for both the "minimalist" and "maximalist" 15 year options is changing at Exhibition/Liberty Village to the SmartTrack then taking it back NW towards Bloor West? But yes even the most ambitious plan on the table has gaps.

    Transit City Plan

FYI City of Toronto confirms the maps from the Star and Globe are essentially accurate and should be available later today at toronto.ca/transitto. I'll write up a short story for this site in the next few hours, summarising the new developments based on my understanding of the situation. Any...

    Transit City Plan

What I have just been told is that the Finch end is supposed to be built by 2022 (though the RFP has not been issued yet) but the other end will not be started until the Finch end is finished. Can anyone suggest why this might be? I have asked but not yet received a response...

    Transit City Plan

Is there a map in the print version of the Globe story? There doesn't appear to be one on the web version and it would be interesting to look at it in detail. I don't suppose you could scan and upload it?

GO Transit: 50 Possible Sites for new Stations

Apologies for not including this earlier - here is a giant map screenshot that includes all the shortlisted (but not the longlisted) stations. You may however find the attached PDF of the same more easy to navigate around and read. If you want to see the station longlist it is in this...

GO Transit: 50 Possible Sites for new Stations

It's mainly due to the need to slow down and accelerate again I imagine.
