    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

And wasn't the VL supposed to spur a wave of TOD's?! Groundbreaking was in 2016; eight years ago. And hardly anything. And don't give me, 'but the pandemic!' The city has grown by huge numbers, population-wise, and yet, developers don't see the incentive to build anything meaningful near a...

    Regional Transit

To this day, I remain upset Mayor Sohi killed regional transit. What a terrible display of leadership and the ultimate form of hypocrisy.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

All these people moving here and yet, despite the push for TOD's, living in the DT etc, the bulk of that growth remains in the suburban communities. What does that tells ya?!

    Downtown Real Estate

I dunno. Owning certainly has its advantages, especially when considering the equity that can be built up. The problem is the type of homes being built. Too many are too big with massive garages. After 20 years, reno costs would be thru the roof. A good family-size home should be around...

    Edmonton | Stationlands Residential Towers | 90m | 25s | Qualico | DIALOG

I'm really liking the exterior materials used on this tower. It's not stucco, which is great. The paneling should be the new norm. It doesn't scream cheap.

    Edmonton | Stanley A. Milner Library | ?m | 6s | EPL | Teeple Architects

The space looks better than Churchill Square!! Any bets on how long before that nice landscaping is taken over by weeds, due to a lack of maintenance?

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

^I'm not. The trains are too slow. Plain and simple. I did a contest, recently. Head to Ice District. I took the car and my wife took the train. I arrived 10 minutes quicker. The VL is nothing more but a bus on rails, with finite capacity and frequency.

    Warehouse District Park

Looks nice. But the question is, will it stay nice, once it's built? The city has a terrible track record when it comes to general and landscape maintenance. Just terrible. So many dollars spent, only to see so many landscaped areas turn into ugly pieces of crap, while city halls chases the...

    Edmonton | Stadium Yards | ?m | 6s | Rohit Communities

you gotta give rohit credit here. these are nice looking buildings, with good materials. it doesn't look cheap like 99% (yes, i'm exaggerating) of the multi-unit buildings going up in the city.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Hey, also asking for a friend: why does every CONServative supporter blame the 4 year window the NDP was in power for the province's woes, CONSidering, you know, the 40+ years of CONServative power here? Again, asking for a friend. BTW, I'm a firm believer in a more tough love approach to our...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

It's too bad the entire line could not have been elevated! I fail to see how this doesn't look urban or that it looks 'intrusive'. Instead of a slow tram, we would have had a fast train, automated, running at 90- second frequencies during rush hour. (with awesome views!) But city hall, in...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Is anyone really surprised??! No matter who is responsible for the clean-up, the lack of overall civic pride in this city is the status quo. It's disgusting and shameful. Look, for example, at the stretch of JasperAve redone with the fancy lights et al. The bases look like crap now. Ditto...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I find it funny when people say 'police don't care'. When police actually try to do something, they get lambasted by the social media mobs or taken to court or have the mayor scold them publicly.
  14. W

    LRT Safety

The reality is the city doesn't want turn styles because it distracts from their vision of the utopia they're building in their mind, where life is perfect and everyone sips latte's all day long, working 7 hours a day. Paquette is a part of that, hence the figure he throws out. It's all just...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Be careful. Don't point out any flaw in the VL. It's sacrilege for so many on here, it seems. As for development around the stations, well, this line has been under construction for years and there's only ONE site where a tower has gone up. It looks like the market just simply isn't there...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

^ well, considering 4billion plus is being spent for what is essentially a bus on rails, some added expenses in the beginning, for what is generational infrastructure, would seem to be worth the spend.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

VL review, after taking it several times: the good: - trains are sleek and cool looking on the outside. - station integration into neighbourhoods is nice; easy on, easy off. - it's interesting to see it 'stop' at major intersections, thereby allowing vehicle traffic to not get backed up. a...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

and i KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED ON THIS PROJECT! That is where my information is from. Sorry, good person. Taxpayers have been sold a system that's not future-proofed. And those who brought it up during the exhaustive process to get here were quickly silenced.
  19. W

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

le sigh. no, it can't. one: it's not a driverless, computer controlled system. and two: a 90 second headway would result in total traffic chaos. there are already longer lines at intersections at five min headways. trains more frequent in that would result in gridlock! 90 second...
