As cool as this is looking, I can't help but wish that they had carried the flatiron shape up the whole tower. Oh well, still excited! Hope the cladding is nice!

Thanks! Somehow I just saw your response now. I'll try to post some more soon!

I'm starting this thread as a showcase for the city of Toronto as seen through my eyes. I plan on posting drawings, photos, and hopefully some paintings. I hope you all enjoy! Old City Hall, May 3rd 2016: Distillery District Laneway, May 5th 2016: City Skyline, May 12th 2016: St James'...

I like what I see so far. I already like this strip of Wellington St, and it is only going to improve over the next several years!

Absolutely. Even a city like New York that is known for its skyscrapers is actually mostly made up of mid-rise buildings. The quality of those mid-rises goes a long way to making New York what it is, and more projects like this one can hopefully do the same for Toronto. Just looking at...

I agree. This is nothing special; in fact I don't like it very much as a building. However, the typology is great. Smaller infill can make for much more diverse and interesting streetscapes. Bring on more of these (and clad them in higher quality materials!).

I agree that the challenge is to find the right balance, but I think where we may disagree is on what that balance should look like. Currently, even with the variety of built forms found across the city (and this variety is only increasing), I would describe Toronto as being primarily...

I find this discussion very interesting, and it's something I've been thinking about for quite some time. I do think that there is something special about Toronto's low-rise neighbourhoods (I live in one of them myself), but I also agree with others that there is room for growth and change in at...

I have to say, I think it looks better in person than the renders suggested! Nice to have a pleasant surprise!

What generally happens to waste materials like old bricks? I could use some of those bricks for landscaping my backyard lol.

Woah...that's awesome. Regardless of the final design (it is a little difficult to tell the quality of the design just from that render + elevation drawing), it'll be cool to have something so slim.

One of the best new buildings in the city in my opinion.

I was walking down Widmer recently, and it really is such a shame we're losing it. If the Scotiabank theatre were redeveloped...best not to dream though I guess.

I think a good solution to this would be to allow more retail to open on streets that are currently 100% residential. I don't know what the current regulations allow/prevent, but I can imagine that smaller retail spaces (e.g. converting old houses) would be cheaper for the smaller, independent...

    Toronto Toronto | 88 Queen | 167.35m | 52s | St Thomas Dev | Hariri Pontarini

I couldn't agree more. I feel like there should be some regulations similar to the Tall Buildings Guidelines that prevent developers from building single-development blocks that dominate an area. I know you can't regulate/legislate everything, but we do it currently with tall buildings anyway...

This looks beautiful. Great massing, great detailing, and it looks like it'll be great materials. Can't wait!

Haha I feel stupid. Until about two days ago I thought this was a part of the development next door. Oh well, I like them both!

I ride my bike by along Dundas every day, and I have to say, this development has really grown on me. One of my favourite aspects of the design is the way the facade is broken up into several different sections. This prevents it from feeling overbearing and boring. Hopefully there is some good...

I think that a good compromise would be to allow something of 10-20 stories - essentially midrise, but more to the scale of a downtown neighbourhood - built right to the lot line. I agree that tower separation is important above a certain height, as I think most reasonable people would, but I...
