I really hope this will be developed soon. This has been another case of a long abandoned empty lot dragging the area around it down. Which is a shame because otherwise it is a fairly nice area.

Its really the downtown core that is struggling with lack of storefronts, not Edmonton as a whole. Most suburban areas seem to be doing well. However, I also have mixed feelings about say the mural on the old Bay/Eaton space. Yes, it does look nicer than the blank space before but it is...

    Downtown Crime

Gang members also live in the suburban areas and have for years. They have not just moved there recently. What happens in a SFH area is not always as noticeable, but I feel slow response time is not just a suburban thing. Some people have a perception that crime mostly happens downtown or...

    Edmonton's Population

I wonder if this is mainly driven by the number of people moving here now, because I haven't heard about big local layoffs recently or anything like that which would explain this increase. It may take a while to absorb the all the newcomers into the local labour market.

You seem to be somehow taking this as an attack on the Mayor which is really not my intention here.

You put it as a question, so I am wondering do you not think it is a good proposal to put forward? What else can Sohi do - ASK AGAIN!!! I am not blaming him here, but sometimes you need to be persistent and forceful. Perhaps, public pressure might help too. Again, crickets is not NO. It...

I am no fan of the UCP but am even less a fan of self defeating negativism. When funding the Calgary arena, the UCP actually indicated a willingness to fund some similar things in Edmonton. This wasn't very specific or decided and still isn't, but it seems improvements to Commonwealth could...

    Municipal Politics

It seems a fairly reasonable and basic idea that monies raised in the community by casinos should go back into those communities. So if a casino is not viable or as lucrative in a smaller community so it moves to a larger one, then the money raised by that casino should also go with it too.

The mural here is fine now and it is nice to see a coat of paint on this old building that needed it. But this really does not imply any long term commitment. The Arlington lot is its own more complicated and long term issue. The owners of the building next door are doing the best they can to...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

The card only access would really not work well because people could follow others in and not everyone riding transit uses ARC. Either a door system less prone to damage or no doors would be better options.

    Alberta Politics

I don't doubt it makes political sense to do it, yet somehow it hasn't happened after about a decade. I'm not sure in the end if there will be much credit for something that was dragged out for years and years mainly because of the province, which contributed to the escalating costs and scaling...

    Alberta Politics

There is a Federal election coming up and as is also known the Conservatives are probably not as enthusiastic about transit funding. IDK, maybe Calgary will get lucky but this transit funding issue seems to have been dragging on for around 10 years with nothing being built yet which doesn't...

First things fall apart with the NDP and now this: Liberal Party's national campaign director says he's stepping down https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/liberal-party-s-national-campaign-director-says-he-s-stepping-down/ar-AA1q4auu?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=7d97dbfec4104a178fca2dfb9971d324&ei=7 I...

It is a very good location to build something new or larger.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

If the UCP wants to redirect their portion of the Green Line funds to regional rail in Calgary, I suppose there is an argument to be made for that. Of course Edmonton could also benefit from regional rail so there is an argument for that here too. We are fortunate that despite some issues...

    Commonwealth Stadium

Interesting about the $180M. I suppose those involved with funding could be reminded of that commitment. Maybe the Grey Cup is not quite FIFA, but it is a fairly high profile event in Canada so worth some effort.

Yes, in the end the response to the first building will determine how the second proceeds. Some people get all excited if one doesn't happen immediately after the other, but to me their approach makes good business sense.

    Alberta Politics

Oh, I do see how this is going - those with the money make the rules and this current provincial government tends to be very heavy handed with the bigger cities. But, it still may not work out the way they want. For instance, there will be a Federal election and what if the Federal money...

    Alberta Politics

I wouldn't be surprised by this either ... if so there goes the Green Line money! The provincial dithering about this goes back to 2014 or so, when Kenney was a Federal Minister and eager to fund it. I feel Calgary City Council is basically tired of it now and has finally washed their hands of...

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

This is a problem with recent downtown developments in most cities. Most of the recent developments in the GTA and GVA are very, very tiny condos. At least here in Edmonton spaces are generally larger than there and some of the older condo buildings have very good sized units, but most are...
