    Car-Free Streets

In my opinion it's less about which street/avenue/block we are talking about and more about the concept generally. I moved to Canada from Europe 30 years ago and in all that time I have not once seen any stretch of city ground go from being car focused to being for pedestrians only. Not one...

    Car-Free Streets

Exactly. I doubt my kids will ever learn how to drive or own a car. And I can only imagine how frustrated they will get with this city when they are older because nothing is built for their car free lifestyle. We talk a lot about becoming a city for everyone, but I don't see much evidence of it...

    Car-Free Streets

Hmmm I thought we were building a city for everyone. There are people that enjoy things differently from you. We are a family with two kids and we don't have a car and we are not big cyclers. We enjoy walking and strolling and unlike you I prefer to be further away from cars. We pay taxes just...

    Car-Free Streets

Maybe list a few places where you would be ok with restricting cars entirely, other than RHW. I know, crazy concept.

    Car-Free Streets

You just listed a bunch of places where we could build wider sidewalks.

    Car-Free Streets

so other than RHW nothing that would be off limits to vehicles anywhere in the city? Yeah I can totally see how you are not car centric...

    Car-Free Streets

So then you're a car-first guy who is willing to occasionally throw a bone to pedestrians but ONLY if there is a particularly heavy concentration of them in one area. Why can't we have spaces for pedestrians even if it is in an area where there aren't a ton of people at any given point in...

    Car-Free Streets

How is it inaccurate? 99.9% of roads in downtown Edmonton are open to cars and yet you oppose closing a small stretch of road just because there aren't a lot of pedestrians. Once you advocate closing roads that don't have heavy car traffic I'll believe that you're not a car first guy. Show me...

    Car-Free Streets

Also saying you are not a 'car first guy' because you used to live downtown for while is like someone saying he's not racist because he has a black girlfriend. Imperfect comparison but the mere fact that you've lived downtown gives you limited 'feet first' cred unless you actually show it rather...

    Car-Free Streets

If it quacks like a duck it's probably a duck. Your default setting is cars first, lets face it. What's wrong with just closing this street and having it car free even if it isn't being used heavily by pedestrians? Can't we just have a space that's car free for the sake of being car free?

    Car-Free Streets

102 ave is dead either way, if you allow cars or close it to pedestrians. Your support of a few cars per hour vs a few pedestrians per hour is equally ideological.

Isn't there a new shoe repair shop that opened up in the sunlife building, next to the new Hoang Loang?

    Edmonton | The Jameson | 53.95m | 17s | Open Sky | Acton Ostry

Saw a group of what looked like construction/development types standing by the pit the other day. They didn't look like lawyers anyways, so I take that as a positive :-p

I think this is going to look exactly as advertised. Can't wait as I think this building will be the start of something amazing in this part of the city.

    Edmonton | 12330 109 Ave | 23m | 6s | Pyrmont Developments | FAAS Architecture

I'm 99.9% sure that's new. I live very close to this site and often go by hoping for signs of imminent progress. Looks like you just found it! Love this little development. Keeps the momentum on 124st going. There's also the little Beljan conversion on 124st just north of 106ave (and another one...

That’s true, but there are also other options. Always easy to say when it’s not my money, but I wish they had spent a wee bit more on this area.

Too bad the ground in the little 'square' in the back couldn't be anything more exciting than bland concrete. I dream of cobblestones! Also, wasn't there talk of a wine bar coming in?

But it would also take up a significant amount of (expensive) land. I'm not sure a third track would be worth that kind of money, especially since there will be lots of transportation options in the area during major events.

Haha ok old man. If you want privacy and no noise you probably shouldn't live dt, or want the kind of city you want.
