I truly feel like the stadium for the professional teams, and field house for amateur sports need to stay in their own lanes. If they were to go with the original CalgaryNEXT concept, I don't think you're getting the best for anyone in that scenario.
Foothills Fieldhouse should proceed as is no...
Is the one outside at 400 meters? If this move gives more usage to the facility, and reduces the cost, it's a fair trade off. The outdoor track can still be used for drawing events in the summer if invested.
I think Calgary needs to be ambitious with it for your exact reasons. Make it the best possible venue for varsity, amateur, and public sports & recreation. It's been a big need for a long time, so might as well make the wait worth it.
It depends on how high end CSEC would want their stadium to be, and how many permanent seats. With the health of the CFL these days, Calgary doesn't need a 30K stadium. I would imagine CSEC is targeting a MLS team (which is probably why they're bringing CalgaryNEXT back into discussion to have...
If they were to take the stadium route, I would hate it a lot if it's just a closed roof, and not retractable.
Football/soccer games in the middle of the summer with no outside exposure or sunlight? Fuck that.
This reminds me, I've noticed recently on Google Maps that 1st St and 17th Ave acknowledge their former names. Is there any reason for that?
I do think it would be a good idea to embrace branding those streets more with their names like 8th Av/Stephen Ave has. There are multiple 17th Ave's and...
The current cluster of development hopefully inspires improving the 14 Street underpass beneath the rail tracks and 9 Ave. The narrow sidewalks are a mess, and dark at night.
Improved lightning and wider sidewalk for at least the west side will make that underpass better for walkers/runners and...
After these three projects are done, I really want to see more residential builds go up along 14 Street towards 17th Ave this decade. Have the momentum carry over.
If (when) the Event Centre gets built in it's proposed location, and the Saddledome gets torn down, I think the vacant land from the dome would be great for a new stadium. Make C+E All-in-one. Stampede, hockey, football, lacrosse, concerts. Soccer?
Actually it's just one transfer; the 408 connects with the 1 at Bowness RD and Home RD. The trip planner on the website suggests the extra transfer onto the 40 for stupid reasons.
That or they really hate the Stampede board, and don't want anything to do with them and have more control (and revenue) over their land.
Or, they don't McMahon in the long term and want a new football/soccer stadium at the same time; or at least the land for it.
Still can't envision West...
This angle here shows how much this building stands out within the community of Sunalta. Will be intetesting to see how this view transforms are more hi-rises get built along 10th in the long term.
I could envision Sunterra moving from their Crowchild/Kensington location to here so they have a proper footprint for a grocery story. Gets them closer to the centre of the Kensington area as a whole.
Precisely. It would elevate 17th into the next tier by making it very transit friendly, and give the corridor west of Crowchild (an even east of it towards 14th) more juice.
