I'm mixed. DRL Short + YNE versus DRL Long, DRL Long wins in my book, because the short version isn't really going to help Yonge crowding. That said, politically this is probably the right call. The construction of the DRL Long in one go was always a long shot, and the YNE will move forward...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

And so like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Urban Toronto Scarborough Subway Extension discussion begins once again.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

First, this line gets said a lot. Is there any evidence to suggest that its true? There are plenty of examples in the city where this didn't happen. Downsview, much of Sheppard outside of North York Center, much of the Danforth. Really the only example of a subway encouraging density was north...

    Richmond Hill Toronto | Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

As far as "planning and design" is concerned, theres nothing wrong with Yonge North being done alongside the relief line. Ideally they will be approved and built concurrently, then there won't be an issue. Tory IS right though, Yonge north can't proceed before the relief line. In fact, I'm...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Personally I think if we ever get high speed rail it should be called the Canadian Super Choo Choo.

Would also give them the opportunity to redesign the horrid 404/401/Don-Valley interchange. And maybe increase capacity. But the logistics would be a nightmare - the DVP would have to be closed for years, and its the only highway into the city. Not to mention the cost of the road and rails but...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

^Not quite. Escalation of commitment (I think) is continuing to support a bad idea even in the face of information telling you its a bad idea. Scope/feature creep is taking *any* project, good and bad, and adding more and more to it, going well beyond the initial scope of work. The Spadina...

I'd bet money on it showing up with a full commitment right before the election.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Bangkok is similar - they have a skytrain and subway system, and to enter one you have to fully leave the other, going up several flights of stairs (Thankfully there are escalators). Sometimes the entrances to the subway and skytrain aren't on top of eachother but just kind of close, so you...

Absolutely. Elevated rail is awesome, I wish we had more of it.

    Transit Fantasy Maps

^Looks phenomenal. I wish this was what we were getting. Any plans to add Eglinton East? Jane LRT? Ideally at the airport, the two lines should terminate in the same place - i.e at that new rail terminal they want to build. EDIT: Oh Eglinton East is there, nvm.

    A+ trolling. I'll admit, I laughed.

    Hamilton Toronto | Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Respecting their wishes is probably fine. Respecting an elongated debate or flip flops, as we have seen (in Hamilton and elsewhere), is not. If Hamilton really did not want the LRT, this should have been settled a year ago, not now. If a municipality doesn't want to be treated like a child by...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think you're missing the forest for the trees. The point is that an LRT/BRT stop doesn't have to be an elongated bus stop like we're getting. I don't mind too much, but it certainly doesn't help the LRT-is-Streetcar faction. The Crosstown won't have turnstiles, that would be pointless because...

Wish the province could tell them to piss off and build it anyways. Amazing how this is the same song and dance we saw in Brampton.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Not if its on the subway map. Which it will be. Its a subway through midtown. The strength (and weakness) of LRT is that it can be both a subway and a lower order transit system.
  17. T

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Neither did the subway advocates. They wanted a subway. A subway. Anything less was the stuck up downtowners trying to cheap out on them.
  18. T

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Whats the point of those articles? The last attempt to quash the subway went no where. Isn't it the city's own planners holding things up at this point? Put the alignment to a vote and move on, as they should have done a year ago. If Tory and Colle really want the subway to go through, then as...

This was a very concise, clear explanation. Thank you.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Why is a TBM needed for the 401? A bridge would be fine - on the Spadina side of line 1, its elevated over the 401.
