"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

What was the "net" for those American shows? If the net was negative then it is relevant - if not then it is not. (Net = Total Cost - Total Revenue from ads basically).

Tory plans for U.S.-style prisons slammed in report

The reason why a person has so many appeals and stays open to them is that there is no way to undo an injustice - none at all - so if the death penalty is to be applied - then all avenues for the condemned have to be travelled first before you execute the prisoner - which makes the death...

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

What is so hard to believe..... house + assets is valued at less than liabilities to the company selling. Winding down the station probably would cost more than the house is worth :p

Tory plans for U.S.-style prisons slammed in report

Actually, that is why we as a people have a justice system in the manner that we have. We don't allow for lynch mobs, and we don't have juries that assign punishment (they are the finders of fact - but punishment is metered out by the judge based on the law). The primary purpose of our prisons...

Tory plans for U.S.-style prisons slammed in report

Actually, that is a secondary issue. If you keep a prisoner to the end of their sentence - then there is no parole, and no control on that released prisoner. Parole is meant as a means of trying to keep control of the released prisoner in a manner that is used to try influence his behaviour...

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

Pretty much all of the other channels are niche channels - limited by the CRTC to that niche (CBC Newsworld was forced to remove some content from their schedule because it did not fit the CRTC definition of "news"). These stations (except in rare cases) are optional. It is a completely...

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

I turned off cable around 3 months ago - have not missed it yet..... I am currently packing up my english TV to take with me (around 15 metres of DVDs TV shows from 60's 70's 80's and 90's).

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

Should they be forced to sell those signals? In Canada you cannot subscribe to any channels until you have subscribed to basic cable which mandates the carriage of local stations? To me that is double dipping, and quite honestly if there is a "TV tax" that money should go to the CBC/TVO (even...

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

Well, unfortunately I only can get Canadian stations because of the orientation of my condo. I had a DB8 like antenna and a small Terk antenna (glorified directional rabbit ears) that I got with a computer tuner. I though the large DB8 antenna would get stations that I could not on my Terk -...

    TTC: Running out of tokens?

^ I rarely take TTC anymore - less likely to run into diseased people if you walk

    TTC: Running out of tokens?

Yes, I think if they were not paranoid they would make money since a lot of people end up losing some - the more you have the more you have to lose :p

"Save Local TV" vs. "Stop the TV Tax" Campaigns

^ Well if they laid a fiber "last mile" (which would be connected up to companies offering services via companies doing aggregation (feeds all local connections to 151 front communications hub - for a fee) - where the private companies collect the fees from the subscriber for the common line -...

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

It always happen when you put public money into something - it causes rifts - sort of a national version of sibling rivalry - which is why Canada will never solve the Quebec issue.

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

First the payment system needs to be upgraded to something like London, Tokyo, or Paris - then we should go to a zone or distance based system. This type of system would also allow private firms to bid on construction and running of lines - and the rates that are charged for those lines - which...
