    General Construction Updates

Sure, you can do things faster with more inconvenience and more money. You have to think about it from a sub trade/sub sub contractor example. Imagine you have a required step that needs to be done after step 5 and before step 7. For exclusive full shutdown site access, it requires 24 hours of...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Both can be true. We can also be getting value, and need to try something else. I'd rather it not be ad-hoc like is happening though. I'd rather if Alberta Health wanted to contract with multiple operators (like NHS England does), that it be focused on the cities where competition and scale...

    Calgary International Airport

When Swoop was integrated in, WestJet said they would integrate Swoop's level of service into their mainline. Makes things a bit incoherent but oh well. Maybe I would have kept the swoop brand alive but labeled all flights as code share to better differentiate the levels of service, but alas.

A lot of people think allowing more density on their lot will somehow force them to replace their structure. While we shouldn't expect average people to understand the intricacies of planning, there seems to be a lot of motivated reasoning going on leading to irrational conclusions.

Not really necessary in northern Ontario. The goal there is an alternating three and down to two at bridges. Affordable and scaled to the traffic level.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Fed liberals have funded quite a bit of work in the parks so far. Its more, the funding cycles have to align with some political will and construction capacity. Now that Kicking Horse Canyon is wrapping up, there is more slack in the market again in the area.

Agglomeration economies for certain industries is one (oil and gas being resilient in Calgary vs Ottawa losing the spot of preeminence to Waterloo). The common view in the early 80s was not that peak oil was coming, but that it was here, and oil was going to be rare very soon. I think we can't...

I believe the Calgary Housing Portfolio is being invested in to preserve units after the Bridgeland debacle.

Been the plan forever, but I agree, not a big barrier to use Centre St, unless need a lot more storage than I expect.

Believe new buses need to be added to start to ramp up service more, but the good news is service hours are already funded via last fall's budget adjustments.

After the subsidy? Granted, the subsidy isn't huge in comparison. The civic community in Calgary has better start thinking of what would be useful going in a future version of this building if this project collapses. Like, does the city need office space? Would it be better to put UCalgary's...

Unfortunately the Premier started talking about incentives when she heard that, so developers will wait rather than take the risk their competitors will get a subsidy.

there were funds to design the connection to the station in inglewood as BRT, no idea the status of that.

The trains are too frequent, so it’s better to coordinate blocks together than inch from light to light.
