Cooperation does go two ways. And this was entirely a problem of their own making.

Fair warning. Apparently Animethon is basically their Stanley Cup finals. Smoked duck onigiri is making its return next week though.

Oliver and 124st - Infill Thread

I'll stick to keeping the comparisons new vs conversions. We considered older houses, especially in Westmount, and probably would've gone with one if Blatchford wasn't a thing. I've been living in various old houses since 2016. I've liked it. But when we looked at old houses, there were a lot...

Yeah, and they exceeded their air rights by about 6m resulting in a stop work order after the neighbour called them on it.

    The Riverhawks

Just like the gondola. I can understand ideas being floated at that point because the Prospects weren't exactly filling seats and the operations of the park were a bit lacklustre. Things didn't really take off until Randy Gregg and Baseball Edmonton came along. Side note: they seem to be...

    The Riverhawks

Parking has always been weirdly primitive and terrible there going back to the old park,. My Dad and I always ended up walking to the games from as far away as the Legislature because they just had a crappy oft-muddy field to park in that was quite slow to get in and out of and it really hasn't...

Yeah. I saw that. It makes sense given that there just isn't any good train connection from Kitchener/Waterloo or Hamilton to Pearson. You'd basically have to grab a GO train to Union then transfer to UP and backtrack and it's pretty much guaranteed to be a longer trip. And at some times of day...

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

Construction has picked up significantly though and people keep moving in. It might not move as fast as a development on the south side, but as someone in the process of moving in I'm really glad it hasn't developed like those neighbourhoods.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something here, but has the Valley Line even been running long enough to have any kind of impact on tax assessments? Is the warehouse park supposed to increase assessments before it's complete?

    Edmonton summer festivals

I've been playing catch up since that last air quality disaster made me as sick as a dog. I'll probably take it easy, but still go to the downtown market, and since I'm not really feeling like cooking I'm probably wandering down to Cariwest specifically for the purpose of grabbing food.

Well, I didn't really expect this, but Okinawa Onigiri in the old Churchill Exchange is definitely becoming a favourite of mine for my morning coffee. It's just a nice little family owned and operated cafe. They've been expanding their menu and trying a bunch of nifty ideas for weekly specials...

It was brought in because the previous crane extended too far over the neighbour's property and Westrich Pacific thought they wouldn't notice, and then tried to pretend that the neighbour had signed off on it.

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

The planning map I shared is from the 1960s, and was a precursor to the clearance of Chinatown. The coloured spaces were seen as blight, because in "excessive" concentrations they supposedly attracted ne'erdowells and poverty, especially the cluster around 97th and Jasper and the city was...

I would hope they've figured it out. There's certainly cost advantages to using a train as a feed liner over a swarm of DHC-8's, let alone any kind of jet on an absurdly short hop. But they do have a history of wallowing in their own crapulence.

It really says something when a collegiate team can sell out a venue designed for AAA ball.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

This is just a great little bit of influencing, and it'll be interesting to see how the first LRT Folk Fest goes.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I always noticed looking at pictures from the final days of streetcar service that most of the equipment from from the 1910s. Streetcars tend to last longer than buses in service, but there's definitely this sense of a fleet that's on its last legs.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

As I understand it from talking to the folks who run On the Edge, they were able to work out a deal with the hotel (rather than the mall) for that space.

With them, at least the hotel seems to bill them as their restaurant, and they have some kind of overlap with movie theatre operations. But it does seem like a worse location than just being on 103 street or 104 street.
