I'm still surprised that the smaller brick building didn't qualify for retention. Considering some of the 'heritage' buildings in the city that are far less unique; they are often defended with significant effort by the city and locals.

Agreed, it was a pleasant surprise but unfortunately I took that shot during a weekend stay at the Delta Toronto.

Reminds me of (with the exception of Zaha Hadid's 1000 Museum) the glass towers along Biscayne Boulevard in Miami. In other words, doesn't belong in a pedestrian oriented neighborhood.

Agreed. Although the logistics of both sites makes for difficult builds, this project seems to be moving as expected given the complexities of a tiny staging area, façade retention, and slim footprint.

The pace of this project is impressive! Looking back on these images a year ago it's amazing to think that they demo'd, excavated and reached grade in a matter of 12 months even with COVID-19 delays stacked against them.

Perfect analogy, this project is an absolute unit. Even in the renderings the streetscape doesn't look all that inviting. Despite the materiality being somewhat varied the street-wall presence will be significant.
