    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Yeah, they certainly would have if for ten seconds he'd stepped outside the bounds of filling Canada up with new prisons, shilling for the petroleum industry, going to war with the Supreme Court and that oh-so-inconvenient Constitution, and padlocking the mouths of people supposedly in...

    Goldie's Toronto

Yeah, me too. I really wished they'd finished it to the 401 when they'd had the chance. It would have taken a good deal of the stress off the DVP and the 401. The traffic jams I hear about nearly every morning on the 401 westbound coming in from Durham and Scarborough really astounds me.

Plans to fill in Allen Road

No, but they can go somewhere, just like subways. "Somewhere" is the thin edge of "everywhere" only when verging on fanaticism. My opinion is there were two more links we needed and we could have rightly called it quits on expressways inside Metro. I also think we really dropped the ball on...

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

That's pretty classy. I hope the city finds a working modus vivendi for Uber. It would be a shame to lose the option. And it might sharpen the cab industry up as well.

Plans to fill in Allen Road

The subway is a way to get in and out of downtown, but not for everyone. I've always found this to be a "let them eat cake" kind of position. Not in a nasty way, but in the way Marie Antoinette, upon being told the people had no bread, reputedly helpfully suggested "Qu'ils mangent de la...

Plans to fill in Allen Road

Imagine the two lanes of traffic you're talking about suddenly being shunted onto Lawrence, and then backing the remaining lanes and all the westbound traffic up on Lawrence for miles as they attempt to turn down the single lane southbound on Marlee. You don't need to imagine it, in fact. It's...

Plans to fill in Allen Road

Depends on where you're going. When I was making sojourns down to the City Archives, mainly before the aerial photo plates started being put online, it really was the best way to do it. That's not saying much. But taking it easy along side streets really has it beat over crawling up Spadina and...

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

And people wonder how things like Uber get started. There's so much wrong with the taxi industry in Toronto. Are taxi licenses still being handed down like earldoms and rented out to the people who really ought to have them?

    Lost Road: Indian Line Road

I noticed that while driving on the 427 lately. Any idea what that's all about? I was wondering if they were actually taking the bridge out, but if you're saying they've repaved it, I have to wonder what they have in mind. Seems a bit over the top just for hikers, but I also can't imagine they'd...

    Scarborough Photographs: Then and Now

Anybody know much about this place? A nice little community on Highland Creek at Lawrence Avenue between Morningside and Markham Roads. Looks like it was hit its peek just before Hurricane Hazel (older shot is from 1953), but to my surprise, most of these homes were still standing in 1957, and...

Lost Road and Bridge: Lawrence Avenue

That would be my guess. That's probably the year the house's address changed and anyone researching it, with no idea it vastly predates the road it's now on, wouldn't have any reason to suspect it's any older than that. If you check that address, that's probably as far back as you can go. I...

1265-1277 York Mills Road (@Parkwoods Village Dr, Diamond Corp, new retail) COMPLETE

Looks like you guys called it. I just came across this: PARKWOODS VILLAGE REDEVELOPMENT So much for the condos. Looks like some renovation to the Shopper's and Food Basics, a Dollarama (ugh, whatever), and a bunch of new retail space where the gas station used to be. Here's hoping they...

Plans to fill in Allen Road

Hear hear. I'm so sick of being held hostage by a bunch of pot-smoking naifs who decided before I was born that I wouldn't need roads when it was my turn... I'd just teleport to work, or, barring that, taking my Jetson flying car.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Hey, does anybody know if the ramp carrying 403 traffic to the 401 westbound is in this round of improvements, and if so, when it's likely to open?

Bond Ave, North York, Railway Subway - date?

Amen. I don't know how many times I've cursed them for closing that off and not updating it instead. Ah, but, que sera, sera. :)

Bathurst Street... can you believe it?

Some of you may have seen the article in The Star last week that talked about a short stretch of Bathurst Street up in East Gwillumbury that was so poor that they closed it in the 1990s, and how they're now keen to reopen and improve it. I was really intrigued so on the weekend I and a buddy...

    Central Waterfront 1950s-70s

I hope you're being facetious. "It can't happen here" statements always put ice down my spine. :/

    Toronto via YouTube

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet but there's a terrific video from the NFB up on YouTube, called Christoper's Movie Matinee. It's a bunch of college-aged young people in the summer of 1967 wandering around Toronto and just filming stuff, going to City Hall, talking to people on the TTC...

    Ellesmere Road, 1952-2009

Yes, we have a nice little thread going about that. :)
