    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Yesterday morning (ca. 8:45) had dangerous overcrowding at St George due to delays on line 1 southbound. Once again, it did not occur to the TTC to suggest that Line 2 commuters transfer at Spadina instead. Transferring at St George, it was difficult to even get up the stairs from the line 2...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

TTC bus 80 westbound has a stop on the west side of Parkside Drive, at Geoffrey Street (or rather, across from the beginning of Geoffrey Street). https://goo.gl/maps/3mfvePfzRh12 If exiting the bus at this stop, a pedestrian has two options: cross four lanes of Parkside Drive (speed limit = 50...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

So the solution has to be to continue with increasing the capacity, not to keep a lid on improvements to the network.

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

Sorry, but that is crazy. In an efficient system (as they exist in many Asian and European cities), all modes cost the same in order to encourage transit users to take the mode of transportation that is the most efficient for their trip. Why give people an incentive to take a slower...

Yonge Street, North York Streetscape Improvements

https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2018/03/03/pedestrian-struck-in-scarborough-dies-in-hospital.html 14 dead pedestrians since the beginning of the year. Those on council who refuse to design streets for anything other than vehicle use need to be held morally responsible for these deaths.

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

The union representing contract faculty and teaching assistants at York University has voted to go on strike as of Monday. In past strikes, TTC buses have stayed off campus. Now the subway station should be unaffected by picket lines. I wonder how many of the non-striking York commuters will...

Toronto Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Actually, I'm thinking of faculty members too. I know several who are hoping for this option to arrive. As far as the crowding is concerned, you're right about Line 1 going north in the am and south in the pm. However, line 2 is extremely crowded in the afternoon rush, I don't think you could...

Toronto Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

This is still pretty attractive if weighed against the uncomfortable and unsafe overcrowding on the Bloor-Danforth line and at St George, which are only going to get worse over time. Yes, there will have to be further fare integration, but even at the current TTC co-fare, people may want to go...

Toronto Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Why are you assuming that this line will only be used by people commuting from Barrie? It will also provide a direct and fast route for people going from the West End to York University that avoids the overcrowded transfer at St George

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Also, much of the Eastern edge of High Park along Parkside Drive between Howard Park Ave and Bloor is characterized by a rather steep ravine down to Spring Creek. I doubt that tunneling is possible there. I remember a few years ago the westernmost lane of Parkside Drive was closed because part...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

Sorauren Avenue in Parkdale/Roncesvalles is a bit like that: mostly residential, but here and there with commercial uses on corners (or near corners): 3 coffee shops, a convenience store, a yoga studio, a hairdresser, a doggy day care. I think this is really ideal from a density/walkability...

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

She was a poor candidate in the sense that she ran a very disingenuous campaign that avoided taking clear stances on city-wide issues (Island Airport, Gardiner, LRTs, Scarborough subway, DRL), or even on local issues. She had a video on Facebook where she complained about the streetcar stop...

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

I wish Gord Perks ran for mayor. I think he'd be much better as mayor than as councillor, because he tends to look at the bigger picture, rather than trying to secure goodies for his ward. Looking at how poorly he did in 2014 (getting only 55% against poor opposition) he might not even get...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

I like the suggestion to take the Relief Line West to Jane instead of Dundas West, as is usually suggested - creates less redundancy with RER

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

If an announcement had mentioned the crowding levels, I'm sure some people would have followed the advice. I certainly would have.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

And yet the TTC could have easily told passengers on Line 2 that they should use Spadina instead of St George to transfer to Line 1, especially if going northbound. That is the ONE point of redundancy in the system, and it was not used. (At least not when I transferred at 9am)

    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

He is not being thrown in jail. People have the right to change their mind whether someone is acceptable as a candidate or not. "Innocent until proven guilty" is not a campaign slogan (even if Rob Ford pretended that it was)
