I'm being serious. I was following the interesting conversation, then you you brought up racism. You said it was pretty racist, TBH. Now it's on my my mind and I can't stop thinking about it.

Every time I see this development, I'm going to think about how racist it is.

I agree. I think some posters could exercise a higher degree of tolerance and inclusion on this forum from time to time.

At least we got a picture of the completed project! This is the first time I've seen it pictured on this site ?

It's the same with living in Banff national park. Also, I think West District at UofC has a 99 year leasehold too. The only difference is that federal and provincial governments usually renew their 99 year leases free of charge while the reserves do not. IIRC, Redwood Meadows is in the process...

The Crescent Heights CA and most residents would love it! I used to live in Crescent Heights and most residents are not happy that Centre street turns into a freeway from 3-6pm. The businesses along Centre would fight it tooth and nail.

I find it hard to believe the cost has increased to 8-9 billion. It seems ridiculously high. Can't the city find modest cost savings? Instead of tunnel boring using a cut and cover method? Just build it from Eau Claire to Shepard? or utilize the Centre Street bridge?

Why Calgary is losing its young adults?

Really good thread! I agree with both Darwink and Silence&Motion. I'd say the reason we've seen a decline in the increase in young people is threefold: 1. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are way more fun, for someone between the ages of 18-30. Trendy cafes and restaurants, art scene, more...

If the LRT were to run on street, I'd like to see the following crossings: 7th Ave: Pedestrian 8th Ave: Pedestrian/Cyling 9th Ave: Station with pedestrian and cycling 10th Ave: Auto/Pedestrian 12th Ave: Auto/Pedestrian/Cycling 14th Ave: Pedestrian 16th Ave: Grade Separated with station below...

That's a good point...it'll be a big political fight, but one that's worth having. I think with running the LRT on the surface you save a ton of money and get a station on 9th avenue. Some posters say that the 9th ave station only panders to the rich SFH's in Crescent Heights, but I disagree...

I went to the gallery yesterday was was pretty impressed with the facility! I was more fascinated with the building than the actual art work ? I'm looking forward to seeing how the West End will look in the next 10-20 years. I was proud of our city for facilitating the conversion of an old...

You both raise good points. I'll concede that it will be a struggle to build the NC LRT...but it'll be a struggle worth having, and it will pay off in the long term. I hate to say it, but the NC won't generate large ridership until it passes Beddington Trail in the north. Similar to how the SE...

Me too. I agree, the catchment area in NC is very large. However, it would be a shame if stage 1 of the project were to get bogged down by a political quagmire. The businesses on Centre would claim that they weren't adequately consulted. We all know how it would play out.

I agree with mostly everything you said. I think for now the terminus should be the Eau Claire station at 2nd Ave. Everything north of that can be hashed out at a later time. I used to live the Crescent Heights, and unfortunately, I think the alignment of Centre street will result in a big...

It's so interesting to see how volume on Macleod (at 12th Ave) has dropped from 40,000 to 29,000. Both those roads are candidates for a road diet or to be made two way streets somehow..

Interesting! Could be a positive catalyst for Manchester and Fairview. I wonder where the station south of Chinook is going to be? I also wonder how two more stations on the south line will effect travel time to downtown?

I think the Greenline is going to be a huge bonus for Inglewood. Similar to how Sunnyside station benefits Kensington, it'll ferry a lot of people into the neighborhood.
