That would be true if the trains were all pre-loaded and just running through a tunnel. Halving the headways will add dwell time, which in turn reduces the operational speed of the line and in turn its capacity. Though I don't disagree with your general point, that smaller vehicles more...

I can't find the source right now, but the Cliffside neighbourhood study (or maybe it was the Kingston/Danforth realignment study?) did indicate a vision to remove the centre median and replace it with bus lanes at least as far east as Midland. That'd be an improvement, and then it's also not...

No road closures booked, but that almost looks like it could be ready for concrete tomorrow

It's also not uncommon for the city to deny occupancy if the balconies aren't ready. The building permits specified a building with balconies, and the city is not obliged to sign off occupancy on a building with open permits. I've literally done 7 12s to finish balconies for occupancy. It's up...

BVGlazing supplied and installed the balcony system, but they themselves are not a glass manufacturer. They purchased the glass from a third-party, and it appears the fault is with the third-party. I'm sure an understanding between Pinnacle, BVGlazing, and the third-party will be reached...

I believe Pinnacle is large enough that they act as their own GC. They contracted to a window company, who in turn contracted to a glass manufacturer. In theory, the glass manufacturer is on the hook. In reality, it'll get messier. The margins on a job like that are so tight that it might...

No. Laminate means the glass is more than one layer, glued together. Balcony glass is laminated both for strength and so that it won't fall out if it does break. Same as a car windshield. The laminate failing means the two layers are coming apart. This glass is both fritted and laminated. One...

Laminate failed. Not sure why, just know that it was delaminating. I believe it got bad around those super cold days we just had. Sounded like it wasn't installation related. Even the crates they hadn't opened from the supplier were delaminating. Not cheap glass, either.

The balcony glass failed. It's being replaced.

I know you can't fix everything with planning, but I'd love to see a bylaw that prevents payday loan places from opening within 300m of a Beer Store or LCBO.

It's an office building, not a condo. The last thing I'd want to put into an office would be a wraparound skylight. Between the heating cost, the glare off of all of the computer screens, the maintenance of keeping all of those skylights clean... Ugh.

There's more cladding coming somewhere. They've got a frame on dollies in that little bridge section between the low-rise elevators and the tower. You can see it just below the tarps

I thought there might be a chance that the next set of walls could be segmented because there might be gaps in the wall (where the doorways are) between the exterior supercolumns and the interior wall surrounding the elevator core. But I don't know that. If those walls aren't broken up by the...

The rebar usually runs past the form so that you have somewhere to tie in the next sets of rods. Some of those rods might get bent down to tie into the floor, some of those rods might tie into the next run of columns and sheer wall above it. The previous pours were all massive pours because...

I've got a feeling that those columns are finished as is. Have a look at the rigging on the columns. No way they're bothering to use softeners like that unless those are finished surfaces. I dunno. It's largely a taste thing. I also dislike raw, exposed concrete, but then some people like...

Toronto Toronto | St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

I get that it was intentional, but it's not a design choice I like. From the interior you end up with an exposed steel column blocking the view out a window, and from the exterior you end up with a shoddily finished column visible through the glazing. I know that bringing the inside of the...

$12M doesn't seem like a lot for a signature park in a location like that. Just cleaning up the slip and dock wall could eat up $12M.

I like the vertical trim, but don't get why they didn't set the modules to follow the columns? It's like it's out by exactly half a frame

I've only built a Billy bookcase and designed a couple sandwiches at Harvey's, but they really should be building a second tower, maybe at 1 Bloor W in Oshawa (so they can reuse the signs, and maybe call it "The One, Two"). This is a project worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Maybe a little...

Take the number of forms on the job site, A. Multiply by the probability of one catching fire, B. Multiply by the cost of the associated delay, C. A times B times C is equal to X. If X is less than the cost of a redundant form, they don't buy one.
