    Downtown Real Estate

To where, Calgary? 🤣 Maybe if enough people in the company complain about the commute they'll move their offices to Leduc! I hear it's a real happening place these days..

    Downtown Real Estate

While they are far outside the city's jurisdiction, I've wondered if some of the small dying farm towns might be a good place for that kind of rehabilitation or supportive housing. The names escape me but I recall reading about a few years back where homes could be bought for less than 10k.

    Capital Line LRT

Wow, that hybrid seat layout is really.. quaint. Haven't seen something like that on a metro in ages! Doesn't bench seating along the sides offer a much greater overall capacity without reducing the number of seats much? Seems like it would be the wiser choice if the trains are getting crushed...

So where should they be moved to? Ottawa, Ukraine or maybe somewhere closer like St Albert?

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Thanks for that, I guess I can see why community residents weren't that enthused about it. Doesn't really do anything to get traffic off of neighborhood roads. Likely would have been an expensive, lengthy and disruptive project with little end benefit. Actually surprised the city didn't go for it!

    Alberta Politics

Well I don't know about that.. What I suggested is a flexible system that can adapt to changes in the free housing market. You seem to be advocating for a more soviet style central planning approach.. No wonder you like the taste of boots! 🤣

    Town of Jasper Updates

Great news for Jasper, the more locally those decisions are made the better! Maybe the feds can shift their focus on accelerating highway improvements in the park so Jasper can get the same treatment that Banff got.

    Alberta Politics

Maybe this has more to do with the rapidly changing demographics of the province and providing more flexibility there? For instance if a school is built in a primarily Anglo-European populated community, it makes sense for there to be English language instruction. But if over the course of a...

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

OK I recall the Walterdale replacement, but I don't remember anything about a gateway freeway proposal from that time. Do you have a news article you can share on that?

    Anthony Henday Drive

Maybe I'm recalling the details incorrectly, but wasn't one of the features of the P3 contract for Henday supposed to be the province paying the consortium X amount per year, and the consortium is responsible for maintenance and upgrades when traffic reaches certain thresholds? Seems like the...

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Are you referring to the old METS project from the 60s? Or was something closer to what I'm suggesting actually proposed more recently?

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

You aren't wrong about the benefits of distributed access, there certainly are some advantages. But Deerfoot gets backed up frequently because people are actually using it. To get to their jobs, at businesses, located in their downtown. Which is something many here are frequently desiring...

    Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

Interesting, build first and annex later. Somewhat surprised to see Edmonton's forward thinking attitude goes that far back... Was there an older, closer refinery that was built first and since shut down? Wikipedia says the Strathcona refinery was commissioned in 1976.

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Is it a coincidence that the 80s also seems to be the time when businesses started fleeing Edmonton? 🤔 Better to be the city of shelters and colleges I guess!

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Well other than the short section near Whyte, I'd hardly call the Gateway corridor urban... And if I was a resident in the Whyte adjacent communities I'd happily support changes that would get traffic that was just passing through out of the neighborhood. Maybe it would just be easier to...

    Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

I know St Albert is an old community, so it made sense they were separate historically. But isn't the entire entire existence of Sherwood park and it's ownership of refinery row a spite move on the part of the province? Well before my time though, so I'm not familiar with the reasons behind...

    Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

Agree with you there, but it also continues to amuse me how Edmonton cannot get into annexing the surrounding areas, not even its own airport! I wonder what the city did to piss off the province so much that the grudge is held to this day... As far as attracting businesses to the core, see my...

50 Street Widening & CP Rail Grade Separation

Hahaha, sounds like someone has been partying with Kermit! ;) I'm sure you know the history of how 91 st was to be the N/S freeway at one point, and you correctly identified why it didn't end up that way. Edmonton's failing at that point was not immediately working on an alternate plan. But...

    Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

Splitting hairs, but it's not really much of a win for Edmonton.. FTA: Big win for Leduc though! They'll be able to afford gold plated lamp posts soon if this keeps up.

    Downtown Crime

Sad story, and only one of many.. Its a tough problem to tackle for sure, and while what is being done (or not done) now clearly isn't working, I'm not sure going back to the older institutional approach is a good idea either. Much like the judicial industry, a poverty or mental health...
