AB - those would be ideal! My understanding is that the LCBO underbuilds on sites it already owns (and presumably bought for a song at some point in the past - the single storey store at King & Spadina comes to mind as well). There are countless Beer Stores as well that are single-story with a...

    Cabbagetown

I wonder how much more retail Cabbagetown needs - the resident population is static, and there are a number of vacancies on Parliament and Carlton (though I understand this is partly driven by landlord behavior). I'd suggest putting a 5 storey condo on the Esso lands, so the Cabbagetown...

Hard to dispute that one (though I don't go back quite that far). Though the Tim Hortons / Pot Shop combo on the SE corner of Winchester/Parliament is still not great. A number of the City-owned rooming houses on Winchester between Ontario and Parliament are due to be refurbished and turned...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

The best separation is south of Allen Gardens, from Sherbourne to Church. Bay is OK for a commuter, because the outermost lanes are bus/taxi only during rush hour. These lanes are very wide, and north of Dundas there is actually a bike lane incorporated as well. Not my favorite cycle route...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Dry and cold in the bike lanes this week! At least the lanes are clear, and I've had some company (1-2 other riders near me in the mornings and evenings). Have we talked about the revised Gerrard bike lanes, especially the part between Sherbourne and Yonge? These lanes have been refurbished...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Why are we feeding this troll? Steveintoronto, we all understand that your Quality Machine is a better bike (as defined by you) than a Bixi or a beater. Let's get back to talking about separated bike lanes...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

A wet and sloppy ride this morning. The bike lane was plowed at some point this morning, but had filled in around 8:30 or so. I wonder if the service level has been reduced.

    1) Glad to hear St Simons is progressive - one of the best things about the CofE it that it's "big tent". 2) What is the demographic & size of each congregation? Is there enough "demand" to have 2 CofE churches serving St Jamestown, plus... 3) ...the other Anglican church that comes to mind is...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I hope I grow up to be a sensible cyclist one day. Meantime, I've never hung up my bike. It has lived outside for years. I've washed it twice. Still works fine. Not in my experience. Enclosed chaincase, drum brakes. Like the Scandinavians use. It snows there, and they carry on through...

Should Toronto bring in a London-style congestion charge for the downtown area?

    Are you sure? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_congestion_charge#Traffic_volume

I use ski gloves. They work well. If I was hardcore (which I most assuredly am not), I would add these "lobster claws" or "bar mits" that most European scooter users have: http://barmitts.com/products.php?page=mtb

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I rode into work today for the first time in a week. I was surprised and disappointed at how few cyclists there were - I was on my own, or with 1 other cyclist for the route on Sherbourne and Richmond. It could be that people are staying off the bikes after the flash freeze - sidewalks are...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

AB, I don't agree with everything you said...but for the bold bit above, I will say you're spot on. My New Years Wish is that Toronto culture can change for the better. Baby steps.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

    1) Every kind of cyclist seems to dislike cyclists which are not like them 2) If Toronto is going to Copenhagen-ize, then we need to pay more attention to new cyclists (what you call the "tring-a-ling" crowd) rather than the die-hards. The feeling of safety is key in making people feel...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

If cyclists complain about bike lane pilot projects (no matter how good/bad the design is), then good luck building support for more...

    Gag-g-g-g....

I knew what article this would reference based on the title of the thread alone! Truly amazing.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Two bits of news from the morning commute. First off, Sherbourne is a mess southbound between Dundas and Queen. No, not because the neighbourhood is sketchy, but because the bike lane itself is ripped up in what appears to be a sewer or water pipe issue. From the looks of it the lane is going...

That might work out OK. I've been impressed with the winter snow clearing of the bike lanes, especially for the past 2 years.
