Yes, the lack of solar-oriented designs is a real problem across the boards. Deciduous trees, louvers, awnings, glazing direction and structure orientation should be better considered in almost all development but it really isn't. If we design things well, we could be basking in the sun during...

Trying to understand how a basket-weave for rail in Inglewood would even work. This is what the project area for the Airport Rail Connector study looks like. Will be interesting to see what it comes up with. One way or the other, gonna be some big viaducts and elevated sections.

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

My most noticeable change is I have tomatoes that now self seed in a corner of my yard and are able to germinate, flower, and fruit within a season. Something that used to only happen in, say, Ontario. And yes, soil temp is the primary driver for plant emergence and growth rate.

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

Deciduous trees start dormancy based on a wide range of factors; Day length is the primary driver, followed by the integral of evapotranspiration rates over multiple weeks. Evapotranspiration is based on air temperature and humidity, soil temp and humidity, solar exposure and wind speed. It's...

This reads like it was written by somebody who's never used a computer before. Could you just post the URL for the file that you are apparently referencing or confirm whether it is the one I screenshotted above?

I think they are referring to this map and they are misconstruing BRT for LRT and assuming a granularity of R.O.W choice that is not present.

Purple line was designed for low floor, can't extend 7th ave rail to join it without significantly compromising streetscape. The plan was a spur off of the green line at the Ramsay flyover using low-floor trains.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It's hard to separate the idea of a restrictive covenant from its historical roots: always based in classism and racism. It's pretty difficult to support something that has been so thoroughly leveraged in the past as a tool to entrench dominant groups and marginalize others. The claimed goals...

Let's not forget that this provincial government just announced 8 billion dollars in capital funding for school development. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's pretty obvious that there are no real policy-driven constraints on where the province can firehose capital. They've chosen to dump...

It's absolutely as political as claimed; failing to see that only demonstrates your own political biases and/or political illiteracy. More enlightened centrist BS

The knee-jerk move is that of the UCP, the city needs to make sure it's not going to spend any more money on something if it's just going to be torn up by the provincial government.

Thank goodness this very special provincial government will be immune to the classic Flyvbjerg's Iron Law of Project Management failure principles as expanded upon by Denicol

I don't disagree, but hijacking another project in order to deliver that one is pretty spurious. These are two different conversations and conflating them demonstrates a profound ignorance, in my opinion. An ignorance that would be very on-brand for this premier

Alberta premier considers north LRT route ahead of key vote on Calgary’s Green Line Place your bets now: Rather than designing a meaningful regional rail network independent of City LRT, The UCP is going to take this project over and turn it into their own commuter rail line. In doing so they...

The 60% designs were presented but I'm not sure that that means things were "stuck" at that point. I recall seeing a couple station renders that were at the 90% iirc. Based on what I saw and the amount of surrounding work that's been done at each of the station sites (from Crossroads south) I...
