East side of 111 St MUP under construction north of 34 Ave. Work also underway on the 23 Ave MUP.

Yeah, it seems that raised crosswalks or speed bumps are the only way to get vehicles to actually slow down and/or stop. We could benefit from a lot more of those in problem areas. Some street labs projects have even been installing permanent asphalt speed tables in some suburbs like Allard, I...

The crossing is blocked off at Saddleback Rd, forcing you to cross 111, then Saddleback again to the east side of 111. That side is much dicier, as the path condition is worse, and there are at least 3 or 4 parking lot entry points for NoFrills and the YMCA. I've only approached it going...

Well, the 111 St MUP south of 23 Ave has been a bit of a gong show this past week.

    Terwillegar Drive Expansion

Eliminating the need to cross at all the intersections on Rabbit Hill Road will be nice.

It's to the point that whenever I see a vehicle approaching from a side street with a yield sign, I'm already bracing for an escape plan because there's probably a greater than 50% chance that they'll misjudge speed and run the sign. Le sigh.

“Some people are having trouble driving around because they’re not used to it,”:rolleyes: Clearly the solution now is to put in painted lines that vehicles can drive in and account for their horrible vehicle handling skills. /s

Is this the former 7 Eleven lot near the William Lutsky YMCA?

I'm looking forward to the program starting to come to some of the suburbs built circa 1970s-80s, but suspect we'll probably hear a lot more complaints from those residents (like that one article from the Castle Downs area earlier this year).

It looks like the 23 Ave MUP between 111 and 119St will probably be paved next week at some point. Most of the old sidewalks have been dug up now. Also, color me a bit impressed that they blocked off a whole driving lane between 119 and 118 St for a proper walking detour.

It's a bit too bad that they couldn't have been finished before the back-to-school rush, but I guess they should be done before the winter. I also wonder how/if the 23 Ave one will connect with the Saddleback Road bike lanes in some way. However, those really need to be redesigned into...

Looks like the 23 Ave MUP between 111 St and 119 St will be constructed in the next few weeks/month. Construction barriers and markings all along that stretch now.

And I mean, no right on red signs are fairly obvious if you're paying attention.

Maybe an enforcement push targeting intersection infractions seen daily, such as ignoring no-turn-on-red signs, not stopping before turning right on red, or making left turns well after the yellow has turned red, would help. I regularly shake my head at what I see waiting for the lights to turn...

Recently being in Europe, I can't help but think that a tram-style integrated train for Whyte Ave would be the best, like the one in Gent, Belgium that runs right through the busiest parts of the city, including the city square:

On the pedestrian side, I wonder if a pedestrian overpass would at all be feasible near the tracks, or somewhere similar to continue on the multiuse path beside the retaining wall. With the apartments being built there, pedestrian traffic will likely increase, and that light takes forever to change.

I cannot fathom how someone would want to sit in congestion at a standstill for hours, but perhaps that is just me. Hopefully, as time passes, more people will shift towards other modes of transport (or stop shortcutting through neighbourhoods). Tangential, but that street-level crossing of...

Having said this, some of the driving behaviours around rush hour at that 76 Ave and 115 St intersection in Belgravia is absolutely shocking. On multiple occasions during my bike commute home, I've seen people drive in the oncoming lanes when the traffic is at a standstill. That 115 St and...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

A thought... are far-side traffic signals are mandated due to bylaw or provincial law? I feel like near-side signals (eg. at the stop line) similar to the Dutch intersection in Canmore would help certain intersections along the separated bike infrastructure downtown as well as along busy...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

In addition to the upgrade to a MUP on 23 Ave between 119 St and 111 St, it appears that a sidewalk will be constructed along the west side of 111 Street between Saddleback Road and 40 Ave this year, which will fill in another missing link...
