I wonder when the extra lanes on the Wedgewood Ravine/Creek bridge will open? Seems that work has been done for a while and they just need to resurface the bridge deck.
Not too sure... they pretty much had hoarding up blocking off the whole main floor (you could not walk through to Chem, I believe) when I was last there in July. Could possibly be done now, just haven't had a chance to check.
As someone who rides from south, the Whitemud and river/ravine valleys are definitely something you have to plan for crossing when heading into the city. When one crossing option is taken out (eg the pedestrian bridge near Royal Gardens when it was closed for a bit), it really throws off commute...
I drive the SW portion weekly and am pretty sure that the North Sask river bridge ones are not installed? Also rode my bike on the path underneath and didn't see them. All the other widening work otherwise looks to be ready I think (the barriers are for concrete repair work I believe, according...
Malmo - Royal Gardens pedestrian overpass is now open again, and the path on the side that goes into the alley is now re-done (the fences at the bottom are gone).
Awesome, thanks for the links and info. Ended up reading most of that Brander Gardens and every problem listed there is pretty much as expected and could probably be applied to majority of the circa 1980s-2000s built suburbs. And when you add in curvy roads into the equation you get speeding...
Possibly tangential question, but I've noticed some of these makeshift curb extensions/traffic islands popping up in some SW neighbourhoods (mainly those with collector roads that are waaaaaaay too wide, yay 1990s-2000s surburb designs). Does anyone know if this is a city initiative or have any...
Hoping that last portion of the bike lane (and bike sensors to cross 87 and 82) are done by September. I've been avoiding it by taking 106 over to the east for the past few weeks after I almost got hit by a construction truck down there earlier this month.
The bike-specific ones on 106 St lane and 83 Ave lane work just fine for me, and my bike is pretty light. The regular ones (mainly on collector roads leaving neighborhoods) however are a different story.
It would also seem that the main level of CAB (where the two Tim Hortons are) is undergoing renovations over the summer. Can't find any plans or further info online though.
Found this interesting design of a two-way protected bike lane that retained a certain amount of parking while also providing bike racks, in Victoria. I wonder if something similar could work here.
While we're at it, hopefully something is planned for Victoria Park Rd soon as well to widen that sidewalk into a MUP. The connection to the trail leading to the High Level Bridge/Glenora from there is pretty poorly marked and a pain to access. Given the newly widened Groat Bridge MUP, this area...
The Whitemud pedestrian bridge connecting Royal Gardens and Malmo is closed now for reconstruction, FYI, for those who ride/commute through there. Talked to some workers there and they didn't really know how long it'd take, but my guess is it could be at least up to a month due to the extent of...
Bellamy Hill was the Tour of Alberta KOM if I recall correctly and seemed to work well (it is a tough climb, probably one of the toughest in the city IMO).
