Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Disappointing to see the triple R, but for a project at the 5% phase, not sure if it's actually possible for it to be all green.

Yea. Put the debates in the other topic. Use this topic for updates on the current plan which is the single stop Subway extension to STC.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

So I recently took the subway to City Hall to watch the Canada 150 fireworks, and getting from STC to city hall via subway takes about 1 hour. It's a little bit long tbh, but sort of acceptable considering I don't go there very often. While I'm not big on support for the SSE, I am even more...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

My opinion on that Property Price Subway Map is that while we know the RT is absolute garbage, I don't think it's 100% the reason why properties are cheap in Scarborough. For example, Don Mills isn't doing so hot either and it's on subway. But that's the besides the point, the RT needs to go...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

No misunderstandings here, I just don't get the idea of tolling 401 to finance "all" transportation projects, when you could toll Gardiner and/or DVP for the DRL, and say the Scarborough section of the 401 for the SSE. With your suggestion of tolling the 401 in order to finance "all"...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Only politicians need to care about the greater good. For individuals you should just vote for what benefits yourself. The benefit of DRL to Scarborough residents is almost negligible.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

The problem with taxing highways like the 401 is that you're essentially taxing people who use the highway more to build subway for others. Ie taxing Scarboroughs who use the highway 401 daily but using that money to build a downtown relief line. Scarborough residents won't stand for that...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

The problem with debating over the internet, is that you will almost never convince the other side. This thread is just full of side A vs side B, presenting the same facts/opinions over and over in an attempt to convince each other, but at the end no one is really swayed.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

The capacity isn't needed beyond STC anyways...so you would be wasting "capacity" even with the LRT. STC could use the subway station though.

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

Buses could have even more stops and serve even more local riders, let's have buses instead?

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Good Assumption. This is what SSE backers are hoping for, and what downtown people are afraid of... While the 1 station represents a good step forward, it is far from enough.

Once again...the Star and reporter @JENNIFER PAGLIARO. What a joke. No actual news contained inside.
  13. S

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Ya, i wouldnt either. But it would still represent an improvement over the current SRT.

Still think the subway station is a good step forward for Scarborough transportation. Someone else can comment on SmartTrack, because I don't really like it.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

If you've ever taken the SRT you'd know that most people get on/off at Kennedy and STC, I'm talking like 80% of the riders at least. The other stops are vastly underused compared to Kennedy and STC. I'm not opposed to adding back the Lawrence station though, funds permitting.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

A poorly done station affects all riders of the Bloor line to a certain extent, especially ones who will be passing it on a daily basis. A station like Rosedale would be a daily eyesore.
  17. S

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I can only agree to adding more stops if they're not shitty Rosedale type stations. If you're gonna add a station, add a PROPER station. Otherwise I'm cool with 1 solid station at STC.

Why would Sherway mall get first dibs before STC? Out of curiosity, I did go to Sherway mall last weekend. While it's a good mall, and decently close to downtown, it's not even on the 401.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Well thats the downside of already having an LRT built. If that LRT isn't already there, a subway extension right to St. George campus could be on the books. Although I guess it's already connected, just not all of it since it's a very big campus.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I guess you could have buses going towards Kennedy or STC depending on which is closer. Also yea it does suck waiting for the streetcar in downtown, it used to drive me nuts when I went to St.George campus for a semester. The good thing is you could wait in say Burger King for awhile if the...
