    Toronto Bike Share

The Bike Share website is down and their balancing (or lack thereof) is getting worse. Last week I noticed LOTS of full docks and today I walked along Front from St Lawrence to University. There are 6 or 7 quite large dock-banks and ALL slots were full. I was not biking so did not care but...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I think there is a difference between streetcars and trolley buses. See: "A trolley bus uses two overhead wires to draw power with two trolley poles, while a streetcar (or tram) only needs one overhead wire as it uses the rails as the return path, meaning it only needs one trolley pole to...

The City of Toronto's new Chief Planner is..... Jason Thorne

Yes!!! The ones at Social (Church/Dundas) are perhaps the worst and stupidist! In some cases, developers manage to convince Planning or the OMB that an overhang is 'art' and thus their contribution to art. An example, from a decade ago, is London Lofts on The Esplanade. In this case it...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

This and the resignation of Sean Fraser, is certainly not going to help the Liberals. I can see an election in March.

    Toronto Toronto | Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 2) | 283.6m | 85s | Menkes | a—A

The Block 13 situation was a bit different as the developer owned the land and knew that, sooner or later, they would build on it. In this case the land will belong (already belongs?) to the City and the 'land-forming' and drainage is MUCH more significant. Though 'they' may do more stuff (like...

Which Station are you talking about?

You should not tease us with these old renderings! I think a water feature is more than we can hope for, at least until the Phase 2 is actually built. There must be a plan somewhere as the developer is supposed to provide 'a park' as part of their commitments and even the City must have given...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

The discussions (several years ago) were to move both tracks from the bridge to Lake Shore / Fleet to west side of the street and stop all westbound cars etc on the first few blocks of Fleet. This might need an EA and is not, I suspect, in their 2025 plans but ...

    Toronto Toronto | CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

We shall see but part of the attraction of this new area will be the retail in the base of the DPB and, last I heard, Larco (the DPB developer) are keen to move forward sooner than later.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Thanks, what is not clear (to me anyway) is whether they are going to shift the streetcar tracks on Bathurst to the west side of the street from the rail bridge (Fort York Blvd) to Lake Shore and create a separated track. This was spoken about a few years ago and would seem a good idea and...

    Toronto Toronto | CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

As far as I know, most of the space belongs to DPB and why would anyone spend money on landscaping what will be a construction site? The DPB conversion will happen in next 5 years, patience.

I had forgotten that we are getting a small park here, on the Richmond side. See: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/planning-development/construction-new-facilities/new-parks-facilities/new-park-at-114-church-street/

    Toronto Toronto | Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 2) | 283.6m | 85s | Menkes | a—A

That looks like a developer's rendering so their view of the future City park is even more fanciful than renderings usually are!

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

The government cannot be expected to 'fix everything' and it is clearly better if employers and employees work out their contracts through collective bargaining. If the government should have done anything sooner it might have been to impose a 5-day 'advance warning' period before a strike or...

    Toronto Toronto | CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

If you mean the new pedestrianised area between CIBC2 and the Dominion Public Building, it will be a while before we see that as it clearly cannot open (or open fully) until they do their work on the DPB and there's no sign of that (whatever it finally turns out to be) happening soon

    Toronto Toronto | Aqualuna at Bayside | 61.87m | 18s | Tridel | 3XN

As far as I saw on the last ariel shots, they have still work to do along the west side of Parliament Street Slip - and, eventually, the east side and further east.
  17. DSCToronto

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Yes, not quite all has been converted yet but in due course poles will simply not work (or only on the straight sections of overhead! (For pantos the wires are also not completely straight so that the contact point on the panto changes and it wears out all over and not in one spot. That too...

Yes, but not the fact that the park is public.
