    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I wouldn't be surprised if the TTC orders more TRs (or slightly updated versions) to replace the T1s (or orders new trains for Yonge and cascades the TRs onto Bloor), seeing how the TRs have been the TTC's most reliable subway stock.

    VIA Rail

I'd say your example is a bit of a special case, because in 1992 much of that time (looks like around 6 out of those 9 hours) would be spent on poor quality track in the former East Germany.

    VIA Rail

From late 1992 The current fastest service is just over an hour slower, on the same tracks (and this was before the resignalling and 3rd track projects in the 00s).

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

If anything it would make more sense for GO to extend the 25 Waterloo buses to Kipling using the transitway, it would make travel between Toronto and KW much easier now that Greyhound is gone.

    Intercity Bus Services

Coach Canada and one or two successors couldn't make this route work, so I doubt Flixbus will try.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

421/422 is the only regular CN train pair on this line, it's a huge train with a little bit of everything including autoracks and double-stacks and is mostly interchange traffic to/from CSX and NS. It gets broken up at Port Robinson. There used to be another manifest freight (330/331?) that went...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

I (kinda) remember the landside shopping area at T3, it definitely lasted a few years beyond 9/11. I remember there being a licensed mini-Harrods (I think this did not survive too long), a Virgin CD store, I think a duty free shop and several full sit-down restaurants. It reflected a time when...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

There's a lot of commuter demand between Western University and the GTA. It may not be daily 9-5 but it exists. If this service ran on the Dundas sub it would likely be more successful, but I don't think there's enough track time unless GO replaces all/some of the existing VIA service.

    General railway discussions

BNSF has crews repairing their line right now and will apparently have the line open pretty soon, which is not surprising given that railways are pretty experienced in fixing washouts quickly. The biggest problem with diverting trains through the US is probably the bottlenecks in Chicago. CN...

    General railway discussions

There are people on this forum more qualified than me to meaningfully assess the extent of the damage here. I will note that washouts in the Fraser Canyon are actually pretty common and CP and CN have lots of experience repairing them. The only alternate routes for rail traffic to/from the...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Regarding Milton, how much freight traffic currently operates on the Galt sub in Mississauga? I suspect it's less than on CN between the York Halton sub and Bayview. I used to live in London and would listen to the RTC giving OCS clearances to trains on the scanner, there were usually less than...

    GO Transit Midtown Corridor

Canada isn't Europe. CN and CP are publicly traded companies who legally must consider the interests of their mostly American shareholders, and their track is their private property.

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

Compared to some of it's European neighbors (*cough* France *cough*), Germany's ICE system is notoriously fragmented and did not really involve a lot of new construction. The initial phases were actually quite similar to VIAs HFR proposal. This is partly because of the nature of German...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

The traffic light timings are terrible on Spadina and are probably the biggest reason why the line is so slow, the city refuses to turn on transit priority signalling and almost every intersection has a protected left before the streetcar phase. It's especially bad at Richmond, Adelaide, Front...

    VIA Rail

I think that Chatham Coach used to offer this service, I have no idea when it was cancelled, though I'm guessing it was gone by the 1990s.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yeah, Calgary has only one bus route with all day, 7 day per week frequent service, and most of the suburban bus routes are useless for anything other than getting to an LRT station. Edmonton actually has a much better high frequency bus grid.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

He's referring to CP shutting down their piggyback services. Sears and Canadian Tire were major customers, and Sears is gone, so.... https://www.railwayage.com/intermodal/cp-shutting-expressway/ They've been gradually reducing them for years anyways.

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

There are basic services (Relay store and duty free) at the IFT. Some of the transborder gates on Pier F were also converted to swing gates to relieve the hammerhead. AFAIK both T1 and T3 were built with infrastructure for remote busing from day one, it was just mothballed until now. When the...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Australian cities have extensive suburban rail systems because railways in Australia were historically more focused on local/intrastate transportation (which was more the domain of the radial lines in North America). Australia still doesn't really have a fully integrated contiguous...
