The problem with this reasoning is that no amount of money or political will can fix the fact that Metrolinx is full of people who view RER as "a repudiation of all they have accomplished", and "that's not how things work here". All the money and political backing means nothing if you don't have...
New Yorks new R211's do this as well. If New York can figure it out then there is no excuse for us beyond laziness, incompetence, and a continued culture that rewards mediocrity.
On a similar topic I do hope the new subway trains for Line 2 and the OL will have displays showing where each car is relative to the exits on the platforms. This has probably been brought up before on the forum and hopefully at the TTC as well.
I get Davisville as that's at headquarters so space is easier to find, but it feels like they would be leaving money on the table there. Somewhere like Dundas, Queen, or Union may be better candidates due to the higher traffic.
Wonder where it would go. Id expect at one of the downtown stations to catch the largest number of possible customers. Maybe Union to cash in on the out-of-towners?
Another interurban map for my upcoming video, this one on the old Toronto & Scarboro Line which operated along Kingston Road between Queen Street and West Hill.
The worst part about that whole ordeal was their reasoning for it, saying it would make them more like a subway and that giving them colour might make people think its a streetcar. That's the part where you would say "are you serious" only the be shell shocked by how serious they are. These are...
Honestly I would just do away with the numbers and go with the Japanese system of lettering the lines and numbering the stations.
Y = Yonge-University (Y01 Vaughan, Y02 Highway 407, etc)
B = Bloor-Danforth (B01 Kipling, B02 Islington, etc)
N = Ontario (N01...
What's worse is the two will be right next to each other on map legends and may even have an interchange in the future. Like I can't think of any good reason for this beyond ML not thinking this through. Like they hire these consultants and firms to create a new way-finding system yet apparently...
I would hope that the owners have brought this up to ML and the the TTC behind closed doors because it seems odd and even irresponsible that they would just be okay with loosing their direct link to the TTC. Currently the gap between the nearest mall entrance and the new station is about 300m...
I believe this has been known for a couple of years now. Technical drawings back in the day showed no connection and it was talked about here (or at least I remember complaining about it). I would imagine a connection from the mall to the subway would be the malls responsibility; like the...
Honestly I hope they don't keep this purple for Line 3 simply because it makes for bad way finding considering it will appear right next to Line 4 on map legends. Generally you want to keep similar colours far apart and break them up with distinct ones in-between.
Made another interurban map, this one for my next video on the Toronto & Mimico Line which ran from Roncesvalles Avenue to Stavebank Road in Port Credit.
Just posting this in case anyone missed it and is interested. It's my video on the old Metropolitan Railway which was an interurban that ran from the CP Rail Tracks & Yonge to Sutton. As I have made these videos I have learned that the TTC of the 1920's was a well oiled machine. For example when...
I'm working on my next video which focuses on the Metropolitan Railway; an interurban that run up Yonge Street from the CP Rail Tracks to Sutton. I made this map for the video showing the route at its peak in 1909 along with its branch line the Schomberg & Aurora Railway.
I had to look into my notes but at the time the TTC sold Wychwood Carhouse in the mid-90's it needed half a million dollars in renovations to handle the CLRV and ALRV cars. That's about 937k today in 2025. Of course the carhouse would need further upgrades to handle the Flexity Cars so we can...
As the GO Train currently is? No. 90s frequency would require EMU's and an ATC signalling system. The latter of these requirements would either require convincing CN/CP and VIA to install ATC on their trains or permanently kicking them off the line. The other option would be to construct a new...
