I know the majority on this site seem to prefer tall towers, but I just don't understand why every site that is walkable to a transit station seems to be a candidate for high rise towers. To me, this site would be suitable for something in the order of maybe 20 storeys. That would still make...

I am not sure where you are getting your 100 storey concept from? My understanding is the reference to 100 is due to the 100 year anniversary of the original development.

Would make sense as owners are very familiar with rental and it fits their profile of owning long term. Also, ability to self finance.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I understand you don't see any precedent, but it's also unusual for a group of that many businesses to get together and sue these parties. The claims speak for themselves and whether they have any merit will be determined by a judge. You seem to claim it as a fact that they do not. I am not...

I assume you could have a lawsuit, but I have not heard of one as yet.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I think you guys are looking at the very narrow argument that the city has the right to make changes to roads as they see fit, but there are other laws out there that protect business from harm and disruption (which I believe is the angle the plantiffs are making). It's one thing to say the...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I'm not so sure. It is pretty unprecedented to get this number of businesses together cohesively in opposition to decisions/actions of the city. Unless the city can get it tossed based on Northern Light's argument that the city can do what they want to any street regardless of the harm caused...

    Toronto Toronto | 64 Prince Arthur | 61.01m | 15s | Forgestone | Reflect Architecture

I don't think that's a fair representation. The original proposal was opposed by no less than 5 parties at the OMB (OLT); (1.) The City, (2.) GWL (owners of the apartment complex to the east), (3.) Tenblock (owners of 145 St George), (4.) a group of residents immediately to the north & (5.)...

Board of Trade Report on Congestion

Surprised this wasn't included in the News Roundup today. From the Toronto Star. https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/a-crisis-of-management-and-inadequate-planning-report-on-toronto-congestion-calls-for-removal-of/article_0a7241d0-eee6-11ef-b36b-a75005b1c30a.html

    16 Spadina Road (TenBlock, ?s, ?)

I would think one of the biggest obstacles is the current occupant (Native Canadian Centre). I suspect evicting would be problematic.

    Schizophrenic. Marketing panels back up.

    Toronto Toronto | The Aston Residences | 57.39m | 15s | Montcrest | Richard Wengle

My understanding is the developer sought an appeal to the OLT as the city did not like the original proposal. During mediation amongst the parties a settlement was reached. A few months passed while the developer tried to sell the site. No takers at price they were seeking. Developer then...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Interesting opinion piece from Martin Regg Cohn in the Star. https://www.thestar.com/politics/political-opinion/who-actually-uses-torontos-bike-lanes-and-who-really-benefits-from-them/article_a5ba3710-d1f4-11ef-a6f5-5721b425441a.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link&utm_campaign=user-share

Looks like a good solution. Didn't see that on Davenport pics. Moved on.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I appreciate how unwelcome some of my opinions are, but understand that we come from different life experiences & perspectives. I have no problem being an outlier in a pro cycle track forum, as that is exactly who should hear about the well meaning but unintended impacts to their advocacy. I...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

While I don't dispute the benefit for placing bike lanes on Davenport, these are the exact type of bike lane that cause inaccessibility issues for the disabled. I understand they are cheaper than elevating the lane to the level of the sidewalk, but they are a serious barrier for wheelchairs and...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

To suggest that reduced cycling due to inclement weather is mindlessly parroting anti cycle-infra points does not boost your case. It's an inconvenient fact that is noted by turbanplanner in the very next comment. Only 20% of cyclists continue through the winter. That's an 80% drop, so that...

    Toronto Toronto | 808 Mt Pleasant | 204.55m | 61s | Reserve Properties | Sweeny &Co

For sure, but the payoff is just so much greater with an added 20 floors, and that appears to have become the norm, not the exception. As for planning risk, it strikes me as pretty small with the OLT seemingly all in on high rises.
