ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

It's awesome to hear they are planning new facilities capable of handling more electric busses. Can't rave enough about the low noise level of the electric busses and the elimination of diesel fumes on roadways. Very excited for this!

    Misc. Parks and Greenspace Projects

I feel like we already have an abundance of parkland in the river valley. In my opinion additional parkland would only have a small marginal benefit. However, I'd probably be on board with the city selling Victoria and Riverside as they aren't particularly nice golf courses. I'd like to see...

    Edmonton | Stationlands Residential Towers | 90m | 25s | Qualico | DIALOG

I think the trouble with all these types of projects is that there is generally a net positive benefit, but those in leadership need to evaluate opportunity cost. The question is not simply if money spent is good for the city, but is this the best use of spending when there is a budget...

    Edmonton | Rogers Place | ?m | ?s | Katz Group | HOK

Pretty sure they will feint an opportunity to relocate to Quebec City or some other market., commission an unaudited economic impact study citing the economic benefits to a new arena to the city of Calgary, claim costs have now gone up due to inflation, then donate money to city charitable...

    Free Transit?

I remember in Melbourne that they had a central tram that was free. It was a circle route that went through around the CBD. Seemed like a neat idea to get around. If you needed anything additional, could always buy a ticket for the regular transit system. Maybe it would be interesting to use...

    Free Transit?

I think it's a terrible idea. We simply can't afford it, and there isn't a need for it to be free. Many will disagree for a multitude of reasons that are probably sufficiently valid, but I stand behind my blunt opinion.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

The exposure is about the games though, not really about the city. Event is huge, absolutely agree. But as far as my understanding, Edmonton is getting 3 games potentially? Am I missing something, or are we hosting a group now? I mean if there are World Cup games that end up going to...

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

World Cup for Edmonton is a couple games. We've had Commonwealth Games, and World Track and Field Championships before. While this is a big event, it's only a few games being played here. I am under the impression that this will not be a big deal at all, and will have minimal impact on future...

    General Food & Dining Thread

I think it won't be an issue at all. When visiting Europe, was able to get a beer in McDonalds, or in various and multiple corner stores. I wonder if it's worth the hassle and taking up the space for it to make much money, but absolutely support for options for people.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

If you price units properly, they sell quickly. The problem in a declining price environment over the last 5 years, is that people believe their property is worth more than the market.

    Suburban Development and Sprawl

You people have fair points, and I do respect your opinions, so I do apologize if I came off as hostile. I don't deny that it could lead to a better city in years to come, however it likely isn't better for most Edmontonians currently. Encouraging public transit is fine, and I support public...

    Suburban Development and Sprawl

But isn't that a luxury that we tend to enjoy as Edmontonians? Having short commute times is one of the best things about living in the city as compared to other major centres. I understand that your goal is to push people to public transit, and it would definitely work. Incentivizing central...

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

Fare was $3 in 2012. So this will be a 33% increase over 10 years (just over 3%/year over this span). Not ridiculous from this metric, but it is higher than inflation over this period.

    Downtown Crime

I think drug use needs to be criminalized/enforced (as it used to be). I don't know if sending drug users to jail is the answer, but possibly sending them to be incarcerated in rehabilitation facilities. It's just not fair to the rest in a law abiding society to keep having to deal with those...

    Suburban Development and Sprawl

No offence to you, as I'd also hope that we could achieve more density. But demand is there for cheap houses in the suburbs, and not everyone can afford to have a single family detached house in central Edmonton. If Edmonton doesn't allow for development in the suburbs, it will simply shift to...

    Edmonton | Rogers Place | ?m | ?s | Katz Group | HOK

Ah, I see you are referring to exterior design. I interpreted your comment more as the arena design as a whole in which I believe Rogers Place lacks these other arenas significantly.

    Edmonton | Rogers Place | ?m | ?s | Katz Group | HOK

I think there is definitely a comparison. I'd say the rinks in Toronto, Minnesota, Los Angeles (x2), and Pittsburgh all are quite easily a superior design to the rink in Edmonton. I guess it depends on what you mean by design perspective though, and obviously is just an opinion.

    William Hawrelak Park Rehabilitation

Would be nice to change the name of the park as well. Hawrelak was removed from office twice, and is an embarrassment that his name is on the premier park of our city.
