GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Don’t expect you to answer, since you’ve given your reason. But this is clearly a hint at something to come for Milton. in 2024, the prov announced they would invest in 2WAD. Gotta wonder what in particular it would be. Wonder if it’s just weekend runs. I’m hoping for work towards 2WAD and...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I’m on the fresh side of my twenties and yeah that’s not happening in my grandkids’ lives lol

BCRY to Utopia and then onto the MacTier is what I imagine you’re talking about, but the. hwo do you get back to Orillia? It’s quite a ways from the CPKC. Rail trails? Also all of these switches lead me to believe that Barrie to Orillia would be a very slow route

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Barrie’s lakeshore is really nice with great trails, views and beaches…..but the train guy in me can’t help but feel like rail along there would be better. Would make the Northlander a true parallel for the 400*** and its use case as a cottage country shuttle would probably be very strong...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

How much better are things for the Northlander if the Newmarket sub wasn’t abandoned between Barrie and past Orillia? Assuming it all ends up becoming MX territory, that would mean provincially owned rail along essentially the entire route? Would this make the trip faster or logistically easier...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

But not in the first phase, right? Doesn’t sound like something anybody will use till like 2050.

    GO 2.0 Expansion Plan

Any idea when we might hear more? I’m hoping it isn’t the Kitchener Line Halton work because we already know about that, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

Toronto Ontario Line 3 | Metrolinx

Is this for some sort of fire regulatory or safety reasons? Makes for a longer transfer time which kind of stinks. Also for a recent transfer, I believe the Sheppard line is just a flight of stairs on top of the Yonge line, and that opened in 2002.

Toronto Ontario Line 3 | Metrolinx

Do we know what the depth will be like for Pape’s OL station? Line 1 was underpinned at Cedarvale and Eglinton, and there’s two levels between the line 1 platforms and the crosstown, being a concourse level and the platform. Will it be like this at Pape too? And as for depth overall, a lot of...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Hey guys do we have any word on the Guelph sub works, Acton, Guelph second platform works? Did they just kick the can down a couple years? Or anything new on the Kitchener capacity increase project, flyover, etc? On a Kitchener train I noticed some structures coming up at what I believe was...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Am I the only one who’s a bit excited and relieved with what I’ve heard about the Toronto and Montréal station locations? To think a while ago we were talking about Summerhill, Junction or Pearson stops in Toronto and a REM connection stop in MTL. I can really live with Alto being in the...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Presumably Ontario West HSR is going to go through Brampton towards Kitchener and London but I’d be shocked if it gets a stop, when it easily has a million people (unofficially, and maybe more). I guess a Pearson stop would serve it but that would require the diversion and would still be far. So...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Interesting. So other than in Downtown Brampton, the MX rails are going to be fully seperate with no switches between the two? Pretty cool, makes me wonder what this could imply for a future electrification of the MX Halton at a far later date. I also wonder what the deal on the shared track in...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

To be fair as far as I understand the triple track bottleneck is only going to be in Downtown Brampton, the rest of the way from Bramalea to Mount Pleasant at least from my understanding, will see a fourth track go in. I believe it’ll be triple tracked the rest of the way to Georgetown, which...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Thought this Spongebob clip was fitting 😂 But those bypasses are probably not happening anytime soon. Money unfortunately doesn’t grow on trees and if MX had a double track corridor through Downtown Brampton with the land deal, we can work around that pretty damn well. I’ve come to terms with...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Yup 8 Nelson St W is probably going to be gone for the third track. I too don't completely understand how that agreement will work, my main concern is if and how MX will have access to two tracks, or if the third Downtown Brampton track will be in a sort of "passing" configuration, with trains...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Thank you to @ShonTron for posting about this in the Brampton Transit thread. Brampton Transit is planning out its upgraded Downton Transit terminal with the planned Kitchener corridor upgrades and the LRT coming underground. Diagrams were provided containing layouts of the area, and clearly a...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Do you mean like not stopping at Union? If that’s the case and ALTO goes through Union and onto the Weston up to the Airport, most riders are going to be PISSED that they’re blowing last downtown, making then have to backtrack with a transfer, extra fare and added time to get to Union. I think...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Damn near anything is possible in this world of you throw enough money at it. Project estimates had ALTO looking at $80-120 billion. If getting into Union and Gare Centrale the right way brings the cost up, I think most will be fine with it given the money already being spent. Make the damn...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Not going to Union would be an absolute planning disaster. This is the one single major rail project being built in a while, might as well do it right, fork the extra billion or whatever it takes to get into the centre of the city. That’s why we want HSR, so that you don’t need to get on a...
