    Rob Ford's Toronto

Considering he got smoked by David Miller in 2003 and has had two massive political defeats since then, I doubt he's gonna go back into the arena now. Those looking for a right-of-center candidate would be best looking at Karen Stintz IMO.

    Toronto 2030

Working on it, but I can't make any promises, I'm afraid. I'm afraid I don't have Doc Brown's number to ask him about it. :)

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I wanted him to run in 2010. Damn it John. Oh well, he can ride in with ease once 2014 comes and Ford has proven himself to be the incompetent, inconsiderate idiot that he is turning out to be. :D

    Rob Ford's Toronto

$100 a month for the people living in Toronto would see lots of them headed to the suburbs, adding to the problem. Not a good idea. If you want to get revenue that way, go with congestion charges or tolls on the 400-series Highways.

    Toronto 2030

Thank you. I'm someone who believes that the technological development that will allow us to keep a high standard of living is inevitable, and that even troubles like global warming and increasing energy costs, while major problems that they are, won't end the world. I think the next 20 years to...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Hey man, I weigh 285. I was merely pointing out that Ford does not use transit or ride bikes or anything of that nature. He is overwhelmingly a car addict.

    Toronto 2030

Toronto in 2030. An Interesting Topic, especially with what modern Toronto has come to be as a result of the action and inaction of the last 30 years or so. First thing to consider is outside conditions. Anyone who says "manufacturing jobs are not ever coming back" is forgetting two problems...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Ford cut the Vehicle Registration Tax because his 310-pound frame drives his minivan everywhere and can't be arsed to pay an extra $60 a year (gee, that's 15 whole cents a day!) to do it, and because his newspaper goon squad (Toronto Sun) told him to. Ford doesn't have the view of a mayor of a...

We need to integrate Durham more into the GTA!

That is assuming that the opposition to it won't bury it a second time - and that is a very real possibility. The Durham Regional Council is split on it, the locals hate the idea and it has been shut down once before, and that is before one points out that the last time a huge airport was built...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Place | ?m | ?s | Infrastructure ON

Ontario Place and a "Can-Do" Attitude This may be controversial and almost certainly won't happen (I'm betting on the whole works being town down, one area becoming a casino and the rest of it becoming condos), but perhaps we need to aim sky-high for this. Dreams tend to get people into the...

In light of Rob Ford - ideas to make Toronto better that would be practically free

Seconded. As for the Sunnyside Beach idea, I whole heartedly agree, and I've had the idea (when money is in greater supply) of having a major swimming pool built there by reclaiming it from the lake, building both a longer beach around it and a bridge over Lake Shore, the Queensway and the...

Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

What I had in mind for the area is going to more homes in the same area, say, three houses where there used to be two. Towers can be useful, but they don't work everywhere, and not everyone wants to live in a skyscraper. Lowrises can be used in places where appropriate, but my Don Valley picture...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

Wouldn't surprise me if that was true. No politician these days knows the first thing about honesty, so no wonder they all sink down low.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Harper, too. :( At least he's just ignorant of Toronto, not actively hostile. And I'm gonna leave it at that, in case he gets any bright ideas.

    TOBuilt Rises from the Dead

Archivist, man, you can do better than this. Don't give in just because of the fat guy who now holds the gavel. If he acts as mayor as he has as a councilor, council will eat him alive. Hope isn't lost.

Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

Thanks to the wonders of Google Earth, I can show you what I mean. This image is roughly centered on the Eglinton/DVP area. The big ugly stripe running NE is the hydro corridor I was talking about, while two rail lines run through this picture, both of them used by regular GO Transit...

Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

Land prices in Toronto won't grow that much even if you just made local areas much more dense, for a variety of reasons. Toronto's density is by the standard of many cities fairly low, and that becomes much more so in the suburbs. Even more modern developments still have very large homes, which...

Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

One could fire back at this comment by pointing out that taking transit allows you to leave the driving to somebody else. I NEVER drive my car into the city, because its quite frankly a pain in the arse, even with my cushy car, with seats like good easy chairs, perfectly-weighted controls and my...

Can commute be improved for Toronto drivers?

OK, if that is the case, then why not lower it some and have the overpasses go up a few then? Say, lower the road five feet and have the cross streets go up five feet to go over. I know the subway and PATH tunnels are considerably deeper than 10-12 feet underground, but whatever, you're not...

    Getting Rid Of Unions

Getting rid of the unions borders on impossibility. Knocking the arrogance of Bob Kinnear and Mark Ferguson down to size is needed to help contain Toronto's financial problems. That's rather different than getting rid of the unions.
