GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

There are also train trips that take more than the three hour presto window. I travel Guelph to Barrie often and the midday trains now make the entire trip so there's no need to even get off the train. My options are: 1. Set a default trip and get charged the correct fare. 2. Tap on and off...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Metrolinx latest capital projects pipeline lists the second package of Guelph sub work going to tender this fall, and the first bit of work on Georgetown station going to tender in the spring. The Kitchener Extension site has the following which I would assume is the work in that second Guelph...

Managed to find the full business case with the proposed times on the Metrolinx website: Go Expansion Full Business Case. Barrie line times are page 90 of the PDF/55 of the document. I wouldn't put much stock in the numbers though. For example the Barrie line has 81 mins from Allandale to Union...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Unfortunately I think you will be disappointed. The city website lists: ---- From what I remember about the Silvercreek grade separation, the city wants it to be mostly funded by the proposed development south of the railway corridor as it's not considered necessary without that. The city...

Link was already posted in the GO Service thread, but looks like that should be soon. https://blog.metrolinx.com/2022/08/31/why-unlocking-future-go-service-means-interrupting-service-today/

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Out of curiosity I checked the schedule for train 84 each Saturday listed on the Via website (up to May 2023). Bustitutions actually last longer into the fall and are scheduled for... July 16 & 24 August 13, 20 & 27 September 10, 17 & 24 October 15, 22 & 29 November 12 Seems reasonable to...

Replacement of the last span of the bridge in Guelph this weekend. They were just re-laying the track back when I walked by this afternoon.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I vaguely remember the city wanting to build a new tunnel there as part of the station renovations but CN wouldn't agree to give up the land required for the entrance on the bus station side. I can't find any source for this though, so I don't know I've misremembered. Now that Metrolinx owns...

A second base fare is charged after transferring from GO to TTC and back to GO. I semi-frequently make a Guelph to Barrie journey taking the 407 West bus to Hwy 407, TTC to Downsview Park, and then the Barrie line train. I was charged $5.30 at the start of the trip, and again tapping on at...

https://www.gotransit.com/en/travelling-with-us/promotions-and-events/barrie-line-trains Looks like GO is trying to increase weekend ridership on the Barrie line. It's not a bad idea actually. Likely close to revenue neutral compared to using a group pass, but "kids ride free" is more...

    Mississauga Toronto | Mississauga Transitway | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | IBI Group

1000% this ^^^^^ A cheap and easy improvement would be just adding an exception to the no right on red for buses. I've timed it, and have had a GO bus waiting up to 3 minutes for the light to change, even though there are gaps enough in traffic to make the right turn to exit the station.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Looks like they're finally planning to do something about the slow zone west of Guelph GO Station. From Guelph city council earlier this week. The full presentation can be found here: http://guelph.ca/wp-content/uploads/cow_consolidated-agenda_100217.pdf#page=5

In fact they almost have such a bus. The 48F started running on Friday and Sunday hitting the University, Aberfoyle, Bramalea and York University. The current route is 1 hour from UoG to Bramalea. Adding a 15 minute wait and 38 mins on the train from Bramalea to Union is a total 1:52 trip...

The reasons for not including Park Lawn and Highway 7 - Concord are included in the RER Update. Highway 7 – Concord (east of Keele St.) Higher construction costs; potential ridership catchment is limited by the new subway to the west; the potential for addition of new riders is offset by...
