Despite the exterior being rather ugly (and the fact it doubles as an interior cafe), New Bilan restaurant is great! The food has always been fabulous, and they give you free orange or watermelon-flavoured beverage. The owner is also really friendly.

What an amazing turnout at the community meeting tonight. MPP Glenn Murray announced that the landlord & tenant are backing away from the plans for a methadone clinic in the area.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the community meeting tonight!

Methadone clinic This has been mentioned in the Cabbagetown thread, but I'm sure it's of interest to Regent Park residents too. A methadone clinic has almost slipped its way into the former "Stoopy's Tavern" at Dundas and Ontario. There is a community meeting tomorrow to rally support...

Well, technically it's not the city. Actually the Toronto Police are apparently against the methadone clinic opening up there. There is a lot of info in the two pdfs posted on the Cabbagetown South website. The tenant is Towards Recovery Clinics – Dr. Baljit S.Gill, CEO. The landlord is...

I checked out Stout the other night. I sat in the front, near the fireplace. I'm usually pretty sensitive to loud (conversation killing) music but didn't notice it at all. Perhaps they've already changed their policy on that. I was there on a Thursday, so that could also be the explanation...

With the development going on at Regent Park to the east (inc. Arts & Cultural Centre, Paintbox, etc.) and now PACE at Jarvis, I think we will finally start to see some interesting retail start to fill in on Dundas between Jarvis and Parliament. My feeling is that we're going to see a lot of...

Yes, thumbs up for Gilead. I haven't been there for dinner but I've been there for lunch several times. It's reasonably priced considering the quality and variety of the food. I think that a lot of their ingredients are locally sourced - so you often see quirky, seasonal items on the menu. The...

    Regent Park

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old now, but since I live on Seaton St. in the block you describe, I thought I should pipe up. My wife & I bought a home here in 2007, after initially looking (like you!) in the East York (East Danforth) area. Given our price range at the time, we thought...

Link for Goad's fire insurance plan Is a scan of the Goad's fire insurance plan online? I did not find it at the U of T page, but I am interested in looking at the full map.

If this is indeed true, I would say that is good for the Kormann House that they have already sold most of their units. I can't imagine that a Popeyes/Coffee time combo directly across the street is a good selling feature.

It's actually a very similar orange/black to the Beer Store's colour scheme. But I assume that the one at Seaton/Gerrard is close enough. There's also another one down near River and Queen, I believe.

    Who is Gregory Allen?

If it is indeed a retail store ... what a strange location for a "high-end" men's designer. Regardless, any sophisticated retail is a nice addition to the neighbourhood.

    Who is Gregory Allen?

Sorry, I should have said "limited". You are correct. But what do you think, after looking at this site. Fake?

    Who is Gregory Allen?

While biking past Sherbourne & Gerrard this morning, on the (relatively) new fence around the empty lot on the SE corner, I saw some signs that said "Who is Gregory Allen?". I started googling it when I got to work and found a strange website, with maps that indicated a company called "The...
