GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

That's defintley something I noticed while in England, was the use of pedestrian overpasses at train stations vs underground.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I mean, compare the average GO station to an average European station, and what we deem "bare bones" would be considered elaborate in most European countries. Tunnels going under platforms, rail lines, etc.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

"However, the operator of GO Transit stated that new railway links will meet GO standards" "GO standards" are not good enough! More emphasis on speed.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The thing is those "bare bones" stations that are so prevalent across Europe don't work here in Canada. Look how everyone is complaining about the Finch West LRT stations (and rightfully so). Yet they're not much different than the stations built for the West Midlands Metro in Birmingham...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Could you imagine? Wouldn't that be awesome! I hope someone does 🙏

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Never. Article was a big eye roller. No one ever claimed that building subways would be cheap and easy. They're worth the extra cost once up and running. John Michael McGrath should go to Montreal and ride the REM, and then come back to Toronto and ride the Finch West LRT. The deficiencies of...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I edited my previous comment to better explain what I meant. Nothing wrong with duplicate lines. It's common to see this in other cities with expansive transit networks. Duplicate lines running parallel with each other for some distance before eventually veering off in different directions...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

If the Northlander proves successful, do you think it will encourage CN & Metrolinx to work together on adding a third track from Langstaff to Bloomington GO? Or grade separating the Doncaster Diamond?

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

And this goes to the point I've been trying to make earlier. The lack of two phase crossings built into Line 6 & 5 will mean strong TSP on either line may not be possible. I don't think Line 6 has any. Line 5 has a few at certain intersections.

President Donald Trump's United States of America

I know this might sound crazy, but if Trump or "Trumpism" survives a third term in 2028, I wonder what's they likelihood we start seeing secession brought up in states like California and Minnesota?

The Future of subway and rapid transit in the GTA

What am I looking for? Just because people respond to me with "it's not an issue", doesn't mean it won't be an issue.

    News from across Europe

No doubt to become the new "Epstein Island".

The Future of subway and rapid transit in the GTA

Considering that streetcars and LRTs fall under the "Vision Zero" plan, it'll be an issue. The city won't put aggressive TSP at intersections if they think it puts pedestrians at risk. TTC will no doubt deem it unsafe.

The Future of subway and rapid transit in the GTA

As I stated in an earlier post in the Finch West, Line 6 thread, the lack of "two stage pedestrian crossings" is going to make it difficult for the city to implement any strong TSP for the line. https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/finch-west-line-6-lrt.11783/post-2332481

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Considering they built short turning tracks at the Laird station, this is a very real possibility. It won't happen anytime soon, but I can see a scenario where after 10-15 years they simply say "ah screw it!", and just put down bus lanes from Laird to Kennedy, while running the trams from...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but would the hydro cables between Bermondsey & Victoria Park not get in the way of any possible elevated rail option? Probably have to build the elevated portal between Jonesville Crescent & Victoria Park. It would be a tight fit. By this point from...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Yes, yes, I've heard it all before. Transit construction is wildly expensive in the Anglosphere. I'm not suggesting that we can make constructing subways cheaper than LRTs. I'm just trying to figure out this line of thinking that we can bring down the cost of constructing LRTs but not bring...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

This is the problem with the UPX approaching and leaving Pearson, is it not?
  19. B

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

If Adam believes the cost of LRT construction can be brought down, then why can't the same be said for subway construction?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Typical Ontario transit mentality. "It's fine to sacrifice speed for better connectivity."   What's the point of extending the LSE GO line to Bowmanville if it'll be faster to just drive to Oshawa GO and ride it from there?
