    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

As someone who uses the HOV on the 404, 400, and QEW for roadtrips out of town, I utterly dread the loosening of already too loose and unenforced HOV rules. The HOV is great because it creates two passing lanes when you have 2+ people in the car. If someone is camping in the passing lane, you...

YNSE is gated on the Ontario Line and Bloor Yonge Station Expansion, both of which are happening, so the prerequisites for it are being slowly resolved

The Martin government contributed 33% to fund the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway Extension to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre

I assume that's temporary while the bike lane is closed under the bridge and everyone is forced to go single file. Dundas is a major bike route

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

There are two street crossings (Lawrence Ave, Bond Ave) and two trail crossings (Overland Dr, Talwood Park). I would expect zero at-grade crossings to remain if they were to actually go through with this. I think the upsetting part is losing the very lovely linear park, not the noise, but then I...

    East Don Trail Project

Connecting the "Kitchen Sink" unofficial trail would be excellent. We'd finally have a safe offroad connection from downtown to the rainbow tunnel! The city done a nice job expanding the little network around the rainbow tunnel, and it'll be great to finally have it as part of the larger system

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

There is only enough ROW in Etobicoke, North York, and Scarborough. There is absolutely not enough ROW in the former City of Toronto, East York, or York.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

It makes complete sense. Bikes are a great last mile solution for subway station to destination connectivity. Bloor-Danforth and Yonge are the subway trunks, therefore they carry all the last mile bike to subway connectivity, therefore they have the highest bike ridership

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

What we need are separated lanes under the CP underpass on Millwood which will require widening the underpass. When I bought my place in East York a decade and a half ago, I would bike to the Home Depot with my bike trailer for home improvement supplies. That underpass was gnarly and it hasn't...

I don't go into the GO Expansion thread and fantasize about removing the Lakeshore GO lines

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

You'd have to use an existing designation like paved shoulder

The old bridge is not staying. This project is to raise the clearance on all the bridges between Eastern and Logan to the standard 5m

No, you're looking at realigned and elevated (by ~1m) GO tracks. The final layout is to have 4 GO tracks and 2 Ontario Line tracks. The Ontario Line tracks will both be on the North side, which is on the right in the Queen St photo above. The photos seem to mostly face South.

Pre-surrendering to tyranny so that tyranny can run roughshod over us does not have a good track record. Appeasement fails

Just watched an oversize load rig knock over the pedestrian beg button pole on the NE corner of Pape and Danforth. TIL: Not a bollard. Won't stop a car crash. Edit: Posting in Ontario Line because I'm pretty sure that oversize load rig had just delivered a crane for Ontario Line construction.

I would argue that there was is on average only empty space between Toronto and Winnipeg, and that any significant percentage of trucks heading north is already going through Sarnia and Michigan instead
