    Finch West Line 6 LRT

If that becomes the case, then the only serious answer I’m loathe to say is forcing the transfer at Laird until the four parties figure out how to resolve operations.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

No subway, but I think a BRT would have left everyone here a lot happier given per-dollar-spend than this current iteration of streetcar-performing LRT. At least the bus drivers would be able to floor it between intersections without traffic in the way. If we assume that LRTs are operated by...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Did not consider this political aspect but yes, if the Line 5 opening is mired with the same issues then the momentum for uploading the TTC to Metrolinx will never be stronger, whether it is an effective solution or not.

And they may as well add St Clair and Spadina LRTs in ;)

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I must say that the discourse about Finch the past two days has made me more frustrated than usual sitting in a streetcar behind red lights. It doesn’t have to be like this. The momentum behind operational changes to Finch must extend to the greater streetcar network.

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Yes I am not sure if people are familiar with the situation at Eglinton and Don Mills, but you could be sitting in traffic waiting to turn for 15 minutes at any time of the day. Throwing an LRT into the mix is pouring gasoline on a fire. An elevated solution may have been most optimal, but that...

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The seats are very cramped, the photo I provided shows that there is very little leg room for two adults to sit across from another without having to share personal space, which is very unfortunate. That is not the worst situation either, as some of the seats tucked behind the exit doors or...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Thank you for this. Can't help but think we are circling back to the first post I made on this topic yesterday. See the operational differences between how trams function in Europe compared to our streetcars in the below clip. It demonstrates how these delays add up visually. We may as well...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The multi-layered idiocy of the middle-road alignment at Leslie/Eglinton and short-turns at Laird instead of Don Mills where the interchange with the Ontario Line will be, will drive me crazy for decades to come. I'd yell at Jaye Robinson about it but she is not around to see the consequences...

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Perhaps a photo will do I don’t recall ever having stranger footsie on the Flexity Freedom vehicles.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

The latter. Our traffic lights have been programed to be allowed to do this for like two decades or more? We just choose to not.

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Thought I would cross-post my review of the Alstom Citadis vehicles on Finch to here. The Alstom Citadis vehicles will be the rolling stock of the Hurontario line. In short, I don't think it feels high-end compared to the Flexity Freedom rolling stock of the TTC streetcar network.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Line 5, Line 6 and the Ontario Line are 1,435 mm gauge unlike the rest of the TTC network (streetcar, subway) which is 1,495 mm gauge. The Alstom vehicles were originally ordered by Metrolinx because they feared Bombardier would not complete the Eglinton Crosstown order in time and they needed...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Having the experience of riding the Finch LRT today and being a regular user of the St Clair streetcar, I must say that it is operationally practically identical, and a layperson would not understand why one has the distinction of a line on the subway map and the other does not. If anything...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I tried answering this question searching online and found (please forgive me) an article from the DailyMail, though I can already imagine the Toronto Sun headlines this week. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7812703/Sydney-light-rail-slowest-tram-WORLD.html Seems like all the same...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

https://skytrainforsurrey.org/2025/11/25/toronto-new-finch-west-lrt-slower-than-bus/ The experience today is that the 46 minute run-time was best case scenario and average right now is around ~54 minutes. Did we just built the slowest rapid transit line in the world? Perhaps it should be...
  17. M

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

I shudder to think what one car traffic incident at Eglinton/Leslie intersection would do to the entire line.
  18. M

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Just to pick on this last point of public perception, on both of my trips today, you could hear many conversations around the train about how slow it felt. This is certainly going to be something picked up by the news media this week, if not become the main talking point.
  19. M

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Good LRT > Good BRT >>>>>>>>>>>>> Bad LRT > Bad BRT Finch West is unfortunately in the bad LRT category. One of the lessons here unfortunately is that we could have accomplished this outcome without investing heavily in light rail vehicles and all of this infrastructure. Conversely, if given...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

As someone who was just in Europe a few days ago and rode trams around, I can confirm this is the case and traveling Finch today offers quite the juxtaposition. It’s not about the train vehicle, the same issues afflicts buses too, we just accepted that the bus transit experience should be slow...
