This morning. Drilling rig now fully assembled and piles of dirt appeared on the site.

Work seems to be happening at a much better pace now.

Spoke to two of the workers on site today, and “groundbreaking is expected very soon”.

Love the concrete ties, they look so much better than the wood ones (and are quieter when you’re on the train).

I’d take corporate sponsors even. Run ads on the ad boards for the people who fund their upkeep. Not out of line with real world operation etc.

The digger ballet continues, and the rig is now upright. Area in the middle is now cleared out down to dirt level.

Looks like this tender was cancelled on April 10th, 2026 (click "award"). Anyone have more information?

The views from the train are going to be stunning, especially in the fall. Line 5 really will be a demonstration of all the machinations of LRT: at surface, underground, and elevated.

Early indications from Metrolinx show the airport extension running up Explorer, rather than Commerce.

Wrong thread, but part of the issue is that these stations don't have forced air circulation so its hard to dry up moisture.

The dual axel MP40s were restricted over the St. Mary’s bridge, yes. The Stratford service doesn’t have to contend with this, so my expectation is that weekday rush hour trains will be 12-coaches led by and MP40 locos (as they have to pick up a ton of passengers during the rush). On weekends...
