My buddy who's an architect and in the know about this site says this one will likely be 40 stories

Their new building will be called the Vecova Centre for All Abilities. While it's still not clearly indicative of a facility with a pool, it's at least somewhat more explanatory of the demographic the building will accomodate.

Populous' page: Populous-Designed BMO Centre Officially Opens in Calgary https://populous.com/populous-designed-bmo-centre-officially-opens-in-calgary A couple of nice photos in that profile page! Their LinkedIn account has some nice ones from their post today as well. Personally, I'm a huge...

I'm really digging the use of yellow in certain building features these days. This project does it well - not too much, but enough to intentionally make itself stand out. Despite its non-residency and retail (as of yet), this has been quite a nice addition to Mission, IMO.

Agreed, my point still stands though (I did fix the word in the other post). Will this be the first use of thermal breaking technology? With this much deck slab (if it's even code compliant), my concern is how heat loss will be addressed. I'm assuming the architect and the developer have had...

Love this mid-century modern design! The thermal bridging on those deck slabs though, holy moly - I'm assuming this is going to be one expensive tower (if this is how it ends up getting built).

Nah. Letting the public get involved with the technical details and process of the actual design is a recipe for disaster, always has been (I work on lots of public facilities). Public stakeholder consultation and planning for a building's scope is one thing, and that's where public involvement...

Sure. The majority of the general public isn't, however.

Getting the public involved in the design, despite how many armchair architectural warriors out there think they know better than actual, qualified architectural experts, is always a recipe for disaster. Many, which often includes the most vocal/angry minority, think they know more about the...

    Calgary | Unbuilt Projects

I wish I could, but I won't be posting any imagery or content (I could run into some real turbulence doing that). One thing I will share though is that about 12 years ago, the old science centre was the targeted location for a new degree-granting institution called the Canadian Centre for Energy...

    Calgary | Unbuilt Projects

Man... approaching 20 years in my career in the architecture and construction lines of work. The amount of unbuilt projects and renderings that I've seen, that the public had absolutely no clue about, would make people's heads spin. Some really cool stuff out there if you could pull back the...

    Calgary | Arts Commons | 18m | 4s | City of Calgary | KPMB

Massive fan over here of wood and wood products - it's an amazingly warm and sustainable material that, if maintained well, can look amazing (mass timber beams are my absolute fave structural elements). I'm elated that it's a material that is becoming more and more popular in large-scale...

The Cavs have an eventual plan for a new 12,000 seat stadium at Spruce Meadows. Love that they've been a success (I go to every game), but selfishly I would want that new stadium more central... always thought the Currie Barracks location would be great. Somewhat close to central Calgary, lots...

Man, that Timbers stadium in Portland is such a gorgeous urban intervention. Would be a dream to have something like that in Calgary. The West Village (once again) would be such a cool location for a stadium like this (I'm also a huge MLS fan). Fun tidbit - I've been in meetings in the past...

As someone who lived in that neighbourhood for many years and grew up with the Bethany almost right next door, it is the perfect scale and for that area and very much welcomed.

That building is gone, and a temporary road has been installed for quick access to the main development. I believe West Block 200 and 400 are very much close to construction start shortly.

Maybe we could do a hologram in the new building of the tree? The Futurama reference would be A+ too.
