Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Half of 500 is 250. An average of 250km/hr should be achievable. That would mean a top speed for most of the route of at least 300km/hr to allow for slowing down into the stations. And this would be the T-O-M-QC express.

Well, then he does not want it faster. He just wants to say he wants it faster. He has many options at his disposal, and the only think he seems to be doing is saying he wants it faster.

He could create a law that all street running transit has signal priority. He has yet to do that. So,what has he done that shows he actually is even a little bit annoyed?

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Guildwood is a stop for Via, but not every Via train stops at it. I see ALTO doing that. I am thinking once it is up and running the whole length that there will be the majority of trains that only stop at the 4 major cities of Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. There will be some trains...

    VIA Rail

I have worked in both union and non union places. I know that under no circumstances can I touch certain things no matter what. I also know how much I could touch under certain circumstances before I would be in trouble(and potentially not working there anymore)..Friend of mine works for CN as a...

It is also the footprint. So, lets say you get a weekly shipment. So, lets say 35 cars come in and out. Now imagine the space needed to guarantee those 1 truck an hour can show up. And those tank cars could be stored a few km away in a yard. Not as easy with chemicals in a transport truck. Like...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

For one simple reason.... geography. ALTO is being built east of Union Station. Mississauga is west of Union Station. That is it.No other reason. As far as when/if they build to the west, well that is a whole other topic all together.

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

My 2 cents.... 1) I called it. They are doing the easiest section first. 2) The graphic is odd, but right now, till an official release is done, speculation will continue. 3) 4 years is along wait till shovels in the ground. I wish they were more open as to it taking 4 years to get those...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

One other thing to add, the train was full both ways. That is 5 cars. That is the same as the Siemens Chargers Via has. I am wondering what the normal ridership for it is.

I just took a ride on the Polar Bear Express.Just chatting with people on the train and a few in the Cochrane area, a lot are looking forward to the return of the Northlander. They are terrified of how dangerous the highways are, and how challenging it is to get around the GTA. For people in the...

    General railway discussions

A lot... A place I worked at had stated that if the rail line was ever shut down, for one chemical they needed, they would need one tanker an hour. And if that was a long term thing, they would need to shut down as that was not feasible.

    VIA Rail

I am no train mechanic...just a ship, but, why does winter sneak upon the railways? Why do the crew not have a propane torch and a hammer on board? Something frozen that is metal, apply heat to melt the ice and snow. Use a little persuasion and Success!Seriously,? And before anyone says propane...

    VIA Rail

It feels like as horrible as it was, they have learned from previous times to do what they can do as soon as they can do it. Now if they can do it faster, that would be ideal.

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think I need context. Lets say there was a race. Line 5/6 Bus Bike Car During rush hour, Who would win? By how much? Off rush hour, who would win? By how much? If it takes 100 minutes on the LRT, but 110 by car or bus, then even though it is slow, it still is faster than the other options...

    VIA Rail

Here is my take on my experience on bag weights on Via. Unlike airlines, Via does random bag checks, unless you are taking the Canadian. The Canadian, you check your bags unless it is carry on. In the last year, I have been on about 6 Via trips originating from 5 stations. Only Union Station...

With the question of shunts and axle counts, if the government has to authorize more money to do one or the other, by how much of a difference would one be worth doing over the other?
