I know how they could have saved some money and put it towards improving the overall aesthetic's….ditch the stupid useless attached parkade. Could have opened up a lot more room in the building for more glass and freed up some money to bolster overall materials. For me there is not enough glass...

Yeah I feel the same way. Nothing offensive, not sterile, but nothing earth shattering or amazing. It’s a giant foyer, nothing more. As long as they don’t stuff it with Ford F-150’s it should prove to be a nice entrance way.

    Calgary | 606 4th Street | 64m | 16s | Dream Office

Could turn out worse than Cornerstone and Hat Eau Clare which I find the most offensive conversions at this point. What a shame.

Finally a shot in the arm for EV! Are these two going to be wood frame or concrete construction?

    Calgary | Harmony One | 20m | 6s | Gravity Architecture

For sure we have regressed as a society when it comes to minimal design standards, material quality, and craftsmanship. This thing is a joke.

    General Construction Updates

The easy fix woukd have been to use the same ones that were used on 17th Ave. Those would have fit in perfectly on Stephen Ave and allowed the city to have similar light standards in different areas.

    General Construction Updates

Calgary simply sucks when it comes to public realm improvements. I honestly can’t even think of a single public realm renewal that tbis city has executed that I am in awe of. River walk is probably their best. I completely expect Olympic Plaza to follow suit in the realm of mediocrity.

    General Construction Updates

Seriously? That’s the light standards they are going with for a “historic” district? Utter garbage. Does anyone ever think before they make decisions? I’m just curious who thought to themselves, “hmm…I think a very basic, minimalist, sleek, lamp post will go perfect in a historical district made...

I’m not hating it. I like the brighter white. I wish the panels were bigger and didn’t have so many vertical lines, but as of now, I think this one is a sight improvement!

    Calgary | Gresham Block | 24m | 6s | Truman | Casola Koppe

I will be the first to give Truman all the credit in the world for what they are building, but man do they ever suck with heritage preservation. How many heritage buildings have they knocked down without even a hint of preservation, or at the least, incorporating a facade. Off the top of my head...

    Calgary | Yellowstone | 67.36m | 20s | Amble Ventures | NORR

Legit question, but someone can someone tell me that they will either paint or clean all the exterior panels? As of now, I don’t think I have ever seen a brand new build install an exterior cladding in such poor condition. I mean it looks like it is 50 years old and covered in decades of grime...

    Calgary | Kings by LaCaille | 113m | 35s | LaCaille Group | S2

Yeah compared to the cheap ass corrugated panels, hardie board, and all the other junk going up, tbis is a big improvement. I’ll take 2000’s spandrel over the shit they're slapping up on Francesco’s any day of the week.

    Calgary | Taylor Building Conversion | 36m | 9s | Cressey | Gibbs Gage

If that is the pinnacle of modular construction, than count me in as someone who does not want to ever see it again. I remember some people saying that this affordable building was kind of a test run to see how modular construction fares in the future. In my opinion, this does not cut the...

    General Construction Updates

I'm still surprised Bow Valley College hasn't expanded since that new building was completed over a decade ago. I thought by now they would have constructed another new building. This might be a good spot for an addition to their campus.

    Calgary | SAIT Campus Centre | 24m | 5s | SAIT | GEC

It will come down to how well the "copper" exterior is executed, but if that turns out well this could be a real stunner! Really liking how the SAIT campus is coming together.

    Calgary | Autumn | 22m | 6s | Homes by Avi | LEMAYMICHAUD

Honestly, this thing looks like a giant pile of shit and probably the worst looking building on University Ave. No coherence, terrible materials (minus the one small brick corner section), and mediocre craftsmanship. I give this turd a 4/10.

    Calgary | Unbuilt Projects

So disappointing we never got that design. It’s spectacular! I have low expectations of the modernization/renovation of the current one because I’m not really sold on the new addition. Hopefully it turns out good in real life, but the renderings don’t really do it for me.

    Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

I don’t care too much either how tall it is. I would be fine with something around 20 floors but with a really solid design.

    Calgary | Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Most NHL games start at 7:00/7:30 in the winter….not much sunlight at that time to worry about. Some type of retractable curtain could be installed for the few occasions where that could be a problem. I’m not expecting a massive glass wall like in Dallas or Vegas, but even a small strip of glass...

    Calgary | Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Sorry westside is what I meant. I still believe it is a missed opportunity to not have some glass exposing the outside. Views would have been great, especially if there was a club/loge/premium seating area directly in front of it. Oh well, lets see what they do to spruce up the blank wall.
