I use to work in this building and a hotel makes sense. Floorplates were typical square layouts with a large core for the elevators. I think it can easily convert to hotels with the rooms on the perimeter and the mechanical and utilities in the core.

A new thermal spa is going into the SW corner CRU of the west tower

They may not have a Jewish design consultant, but it's a criminal offence to deny the holocaust in Germany. Canada is certainly not the only country reconciling for their past mistakes. Land acknowledgements and indigenous design elements may sound arbitrary, but as mentioned before, it brings...

Thanks for posting the old photos! Can't believe they covered up such a nice building with yellow stucco. Also interesting to note that the lot next door was always a parking lot. I always assumed that there was a building there before that was bulldozed over a long time ago.

Is the giant tree in the middle of the lot being preserved? It almost looks like the layout was designed around it.

Man, I was really sad about the loss of the original apartment, but that corner looks pretty good now

Didn't realize that the design for the modernization is already complete. Did KPMB design the modernization of the existing building as well?

Really happy that we're getting this tower because it essentially fills up the last surface parking lot left on 4th Street SW between 10th Ave and 17th Ave (with the exception of the empty lot for Broadway on 17th). 4th Street has such a big-city vibe now walking from downtown to 17th

Haha serious question here, but is the random rectangles a uniquely Calgary trend? Or are other cities plagued with this too?

Isn't the Glenbow going to be free admission going forward when it reopens? That will drastically change the attendance numbers as well

Interesting. Looks like corner of Centre Street and 3rd Ave is getting a Pho Pham: https://www.certusdevelopments.com/103-3rd-ave-se-chinatown/ And next door is going to be a permanent location for Francine's Bar and Bistro in Chinatown...

Don't they need 8 votes for the repeal to pass? Looks like the missing 8th is John Pantazopoulos, who ran on a campaign to repeal blanket rezoning. Wondering why he wasn't a sponsor on this?
