    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

To be fair, the only thing WestJet calls "Business Class" is the lie-flats on their Dreamliner, which are pretty much identical to AC's lie-flats. AC makes it a bit more confusing by calling the 2x2 seats at the front of their narrowbodies "Business Class", and then differentiating it in their...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

The regularly scheduled widebody on YYZ-YEG accomplishes 2 things for Air Canada, from my perspective: 1) Significantly increased cargo volume, and larger palletized cargo that 7M8 can't carry at all. 321 can carry pallets, but obviously not what a 330 can carry 2) Consistent lie flat business...

5-10% is the actual number that connect onward from YEG-LAX. That's not to speak to the connectivity of LAX overall, rather that YEG-LAX simply doesn't serve that purpose at present. PHX is even less.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It's not applicable because it's not true. Once you do US customs at YEG you're free to roam the streets of LA after stepping off the plane, like any other US flight.
  5. M

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It is, but very little YEG-LAX connects onward... ~5% historically and I don't see any real reason for that to shift. YEG travelers bound for LA itself fill it no problem.

I don't even want to fathom the cost of a train from YEG to downtown. YYC has LRT relatively close by, it'd be a drop in the bucket in comparison.

It varies wildly and they often jockey back and forth. In a bunch of random dummy bookings I just did fro YEG to places like CLT, RDU, and Florida, AC was cheapest. But then to OKC, Alaska is cheapest through SEA.
  8. M

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

AA flies only to its hubs from SEA, pretty much nobody books an itinerary onto AA with the first leg being YEG-SEA. It's not going to be cheaper. It is somewhat surprising but has actually been going on for quite a while. Depending on the day, the way you book, or a multitude of other...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

My guess would be no, but anything can happen and an airlines like Flair or Swoop are more likely to make those kind of last second changes than a legacy carrier would. Fares could go up so I'd go ahead and book if it were me. There are a ton of Alaska departures from Seattle after 2100, and a...

Yes, Delta has a big operation at Seattle. Well over 50% of pax on the WestJet YEG-SEA will be connecting onward with Delta. Your existing YEG-SEA on Alaska connects at a similar ratio. Lots onward to Portland, Vegas, California, etc.

I think Air Canada's planned configuration of the A321XLR does not bode well for YEG. To me, lie-flats unfortunately suggests more thin flying from YYZ and YUL to Europe. You wouldn't burn one of your Western Canada-LHR slots for a 182-seat aircraft (14J/168Y) when you could instead fly YVR-LHR...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I think you're on the right track, my first thought would be another Condor-type carrier. AF is a little premium heavy for YEG to work right now in my opinion, and WS is simply maxed out on Dreamliners. I'd have to think the most likely thing they'd do is YEG-LGW but they'd have to drop...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Yep. The single data point of today being sunny is your flight on KLM, the total data set of every winter day in Edmonton equates to the total KLM LF over 100 flights, and the last statement is you believing your anecdotal evidence is a sufficient "sample" representative of the total data set.
  14. M

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Your claim, by definition, is anecdotal. The definition of "anecdotal" is "based on personal accounts," i.e. your flights and the couple other flights of your family/friends. It does not speak to the accuracy of those data points. I'm not saying your observations of the plane being full are not...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Thanks Chaz... I think the important thing with AMS, and BASE mentioned it above, is the slot restraints and constraints on international pax. So while occidentalcapital is 100% correct when he says: ...what we might be seeing with YEG-AMS specifically is an artificial inflation of pricing as...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

IanO is the one that challenged you for a source after you made the claim, not me. I thought it'd be interesting to not only provide the data and support your claim since I'm lucky enough to have it, but also provide my interpretation of it which, in this case, is positive for YEG. Again not...

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I said back to August 1 just guessing as I didn't think I'd be challenged at that data point, it's further than that - it's the last 100 times the flight operated. At 3 times a week, that's about 12 flights a month, so it takes about 8 months for YEG-AMS to operate 100 times. Does that math work...
  18. M

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I have the total number of pax flown and total capacity over that timeframe. You're saying your data point of 3 flights is more encompassing than 100+ flights? I can just as easily cherry pick 3 YEG-AMS flights since August with very poor LF and tell you that your "YEG flights are packed" claim...
  19. M

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

I've messaged a YEG colleague to get actual numbers and not just anecdotal evidence based on family members flying a few times. Going back to August 1, KLM YEG flights are doing well, a bit better than I expected actually. There are plenty of weeks where it beats the YYC-AMS flight on a load...

Hearing good things about advance bookings on YEG-MSP. I mean I'm sure at least one of you will see for yourselves when you fly it at some point so you don't have to take my word for it, but to no one's surprise it's looking good so far.
