    Calgary | Northland Village Redevelopment | 19m | 6s | DIALOG

Agreed, North Hill Mall is actually quite busy, especially on the west side of the mall. With the LRT station there and several bus stops there are a lot of people coming in and out, if they could tear down the Sears portion and put up some residential buildings, and refresh with some new...

    Calgary | Northland Village Redevelopment | 19m | 6s | DIALOG

IMO, this development has Deerfoot city beat just on the fact that it has residential on site. Deerfoot city is better than Deerfoot Mall, but not by much.

    Canmore Construction Projects

Very Canmorish. The retail and street level looks pretty solid for semi-suburban type development.

    Calgary | Midtown Station | ?m | ?s | IBI Group

That would be great, but honestly, I don’t think this site will get built out. Definitely not too what they’re showing on the renderings. well, not in my lifetime anyway. Sadly, the area between Chinook LRT and Chinook mall would be a ripe for this kind of development and nothing’s happening...

    Calgary | The Forge | 16.5m | 6s | Kanas | Gibbs Gage

100% on the dot. This forum has really opened my eyes into how much of a hassle it is for developers to build something in the intercity, or in any established area, Glenmore Landing, anyone? I mean, even Bridgeland, when they were developing ‘The Bridges’ which was nothing but empty lots for...

I’m getting a strong feeling that you’re in the tarp business 😉

    Calgary | First & Park | 75m | 18s | Graywood

I can imagine the architect talking to the developer.

The black material looks kind of cheap, but once it’s cleaned up it should look better. The brick and the corrugated aluminum look great though.

    Calgary | The Hive | 27m | 9s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

This is turning out better than I thought it would.
  10. Chinook Arch

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

I agree 100% about not caring about the aesthetics of this building, what I don’t get is the hate on for someone driving a car. Was it necessary to label drivers as losers and douches to make your point? I drive over the flyover 2-3 times a week, so does that make me a loser, or the equivalent...

    Form vs Function?

I thought I would start a thread to discuss form versus function. Reading through the threads in the buildings section it seems that there are two camps here at Skyrise, one camp who wants architectural, beauty, and another camp who wants function. Ultimately it would be nice to have both but it...

    Calgary | Trail 31 | 13m | 3s | Eagle Crest | FAAS Architecture

50 units is a lot for that size if parcel, a few more developments like this in intercity neighbourhoods and you can add a lot of people in a short time.

    Calgary | Munro | 26m | 7s | Calgary Co-op | NORR

With this being backed by Royop, I have at least some confidence it’ll start up again, unlike the the one across the street, seemingly run by amateurs.

    Calgary | Wing Kei Village | 26m | 6s | Wing Kei | S2

I saw that too a while back and was going to ask about it. Looks like decent infill, it’s too bad it wasn’t more regular living units but still.

    Calgary | CNIB | 86m | 27s | CNIB | S2

How friggin annoying. With all the pressure to get new hosing in the city, hopefully the city doesn’t pay much attention to these people. 27 story towers, perfectly fine and that location.

    Calgary | The Hat Elbow River | 177.99m | 56s | Cidex Group | NORR

Edmonton has the tallest building, but for overall height in general its butt is kicked. One tall building doesn’t really count. The point is moot though. Nobody cares about height in 2024.

    Calgary International Airport

Question for the avgeeks. I’m in the international terminal ‘D’ and I see a flight Halifax. I thought the international term was only international flights?
  18. Chinook Arch

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

It looks 100 times more interesting than the plastic siding. It would be nice if they painted the bars either black or white, but the plain steel colour might look really cool when reflecting sunlight.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Agreed. I agree with almost all of what he posts, but some of the posts are extreme in nature. Hyperbole works when joking around but has the opposite effect if it’s meant to be taken seriously.
